we need a revival of My Fair Lady!

I think Kelli O'Hara would be a better choice for Eliza.

^ Hasn't she expressed interest in that role? I'm all for it.

I feel that the role of Eliza is more suited to someone who is a soprano rather then a belter. And, after doing the concert version of it at Lincoln Center a couple of years ago she has said that if there ever were to be a revival of the show, that she would love to play the role again.

Hugh Laurie is the only choice for Higgins!

The US tour of the Mackintosh revival seemed a natural fit for Broadway. I don't know why it hasn't landed yet (hopefully utilizing the more extensive West End sets). It's a gorgeous production.

OF COURSE. It needs to be on Broadway big time. Me and my parents saw it in London, and we loved it so much. The choreography was outstanding (Matthew Bourne), the direction was ingenious (Trevor Nunn), and the design was gorgeous (Anthony Ward).
I would like it to be at the Hilton.

Josh - Did you see Martine McCutcheon? Her performance pretty much spoiled seeing anyone else play the role for me. I thought she was perfection, though I was immensely disappointed in Jonathan Pryce.

Mister Matt, I saw it twice after McCutcheon left. I was sorry to have missed her, but Joanna Riding was quite good, as was Alex Jennings.
But my little "Brideshead" loving heart was really set racing by catching it again with Anthony Andrews.
I thought it was a wonderful production, managing to put a bit of reality into, without getting ham-fisted. You realized that Eliza's living right on the brink.
Josh, I loved the choreography, too. And I often find myself just waiting for the dancing to be over.

Do you think that the planned remake of the film could help or hinder any chance to revive the show on Broadway?

Reg - I would have liked to have seen Joanna Riding as she and Martine both won the Olivier award for playing exactly the same role in the same production (the Oliviers honor replacements the same as original cast members). But Martine, regardless her infamous attendance, radiated this extraordinary charm and fragility I've never seen or even imagined in Eliza. I couldn't take my eyes off her.

I don't think Sutton Foster would be ideal for the role. You really need to have a strong soprano-- and Sutton has said in interviews that she thinks Elphaba's part in Wicked is too high, so...

Awww, I love him! He was adorable as Sir Percy Blakeney in the film version of Scarlet Pimpernel.

Besides, other than two benefit concerts (Chess and Funny Girl) Sutton hasn't done a revival since before Millie. I doubt we'll ever see her in another one.

Laura Benanti would be a divine Eliza.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I remember in an interview reading that Kelli O'Hara had been asked to consider delaying the start of her family in order to do the revival. I assumed that since Kelli became pregnant and nothing has been announced about a revival, they must be waiting for her.

Let's not hold our breaths for that film remake to happen.

I thought that, but I haven't seen much of Laura Benanti, and I wasn't sure if it was just a knee-jerk reaction of mine because she's always looked a bit like Audrey Hepburn to me.

Tom's Cat, the article you're referring to was in Parade Magazine.
O'Hara said in that piece that she would have been willing to delay the start of her family in order to do the role if a Broadway production came around.
It wasn't as if they asked her to do it and canned the production when she got pregnant.

I agree with he need for a Broadway revival of this show. I saw a regional production about three years ago that was great, and my first thought was...we need this back on Broadway done on a grand scale.

Schmerg, in that interview where she said Elphie is high (the Ask A Star Interview), she meant LITERALLY high... as in above the ground.

what about patti lupone as Mrs. Higgins.

Patti LuPone should never again be allowed to attempt any sort of British accent in public.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Whether or not LuPone would do well in the role notwithstanding- she would never take that role. She just won her second Tony, she's not going to take such a small role.
EDIT: But yes, a revival with Kelli O'Hara would be lovely (loverly?)!

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
