"Laura Benanti would be a divine Eliza."
Completely agree. She also has mentioned this as one of her dream roles.

"We need a revival of My Fair Lady!"...yes, we do
"Laura Benanti would be a divine Eliza."...yeap!
However, if I may...I think Laura Osnes would make for a great Eliza, also. What about J. Mark McVey for Higgins?

Yes I agree! I want a revival of My Fair Lady!
David Hyde Pierce - Henry Higgins
Laura Benanti - Eliza Doolittle
Raul Esparza - Freddy Eynsford-Hill
Raul Esparza - Freddy Eynsford-Hill
Much as I love Raul, I really don't see that at all.

Hugh Grant as Higgins
Richard E. Grant recently played the role (Higgins) in Australia. Not a bad choice.
She's a little old for the role, but I would love to see Audra McDonald play Eliza. Laura and Kelli are excellent choices too.

I can see Kelli in the role, but I can't picture Laura Benanti.
I love Raul too and I'm not saying he's unattractive in anyway shape or form. But for Freddy you need a "pretty boy" with little substance. Raul has too much substance. Has too much intelligence just in his face.
Also, though I like his voice, I don't think it's suited for a big swoony song like "The Street Where You Live." His voice is a bit too... edgy?
I think Sean Palmer would be a fantastic Freddy if he could do the English accent.
Palmer would work or even Austin Miller
At the Kristin Chenoweth book signing a few weeks ago she said she'd love to play Eliza. I don't know if I can see her as Eliza but I'd like to see her play a different character, she's been type cast and I always wonder if she is capable of playing something different than a blonde type.
I?d like to see this cast:
Eliza: Laura Benanti
Higgins: Brian d?Arcy James
Pickering: Boyd Gaines (except that he?s already played that role in Pygmalion)

chenoweth has the voice but she would play Eliza to sweet. Eliza needs to someone who starts out playing a stubborn and insecure, unmannerly girl but by the second act she turns into a proud, graceful, confident, young women. and I don't think she could do that.

Laura Benanti would be amazing as Eliza. I think Hugh Laurie would be a brilliant Higgins as well. Palmer would be an okay Freddy I guess...can he act? I've just heard him sing. But Laura and Hugh would be absolute perfection.
Ooh! Brian d'Arcy James is a good idea legally_popular! I can see that!
And don't shoot me but I think Gavin Creel would be a precious Freddy.

now that I think about it Benati would be perfect.
Freddy is too small for Raul at this point in his career...but Higgins is not :)
I would love to see Audra McDonald as Eliza. She wants to play the role and there is nothing really that I can see in the script about it having to be a "May/December" romance between Eliza and Higgins. I think Audrey Hepburn was mid-30's in the movie.
So if Audra did Eliza, I think that Ben Vareen would make a great Alfred Doolittle!
I really don't want to see Benanti play the role...nothing really against her...but when I get to go see the show on some random night AFTER the Tony Awards, I don't want to be disappointed to open my playbill and find out that she's not in the show!

I was just going to say Gavin Creel.
Kelli O'Hara would be perfection!

I politely disagree. I think Cheno could absolutely pull that off, and just needs the opportunity. First act Eliza is similar to a poor Galinda...feisty and stubborn. Galinda just has breeding and money.
I think that Kristen Chenoweth would do a lot of her "tricks" as Eliza, with lot's of the "cutesy" type of humor that she seems to always does...at least in the last 3 musical roles on Broadway.
