Yeah, I am new here and I live in South Jersey. I plan on going to see Spamalot this Sunday. Is it supposed to snow there as well? If so how much and is it possible that the show could be postponed because of nasty weather? Any info will be good. Thanks.
Powers.

Posted: 1/9/09 at 3:17pmwell, we're supposed be getting less snow accumulation than areas further inland, but the City doesn't shut down due to bad weather.

it's almost always LESS than they forecast. And midtown streets are salted way in advance, so you shouldn't have any problem, except if it's a blizzard. (I live in midtown, btw) Don't wear high heels.
Edit: Well, maybe it IS going to be a blizzard, but no, the shows NEVER shut down.....(except, once, maybe). http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/airquality/local/10036?lswe=10036&lwsa=Weather36HourAirQualityCommand&from=whatwhere

Do I sense sarcasm from some people? lol
Like I said I live in South Jersey. My news station doesn't cover North Jersey and the New York area. Just Philadelphia and South Jersey. Anyway thanks for answering me though. I appreciate it.

What some of us are saying psychicpowers is that you are obviously on the internet and there are national weather sites ~ weather.com being one of the most common/accessible. They actually will give you forecasts for places you don't live! :)
But no, I have never heard of shows "postponing" because of snow. (Granted I've only been here 3 years, but I don't think it's common unless there is a blizzard that shuts everything down.)

The only smell I smell is a sweaty sock.
If I had my dream, I would call it the The Weather Station! 24 hour a day weather broadcasts! And a website, too!

Posted: 1/9/09 at 4:29pmI always compulsively check weather.com before coming up to New York for a show. This weekend I'm seeing four shows, so I've checked four times as often, hoping the snow will magically disappear from the forecast. But bottom line, I don't care as much about snow as I do ice. Does NYC have a website with a salt availability report?

A what? They salt the roads in that area very well. It's when you get into the ghetto in Brooklyn they don't do it as well.

I grew up in the Northern NJ area - fam still lives there (and who knows, I have been toying with the idea of moving back...) and whenever I was in NYC either before, after, or during a snowstorm, it was salted well in midtown.
I would however, wear boots with good traction. The foot traffic can lead to slushiness everywhere. I wore boots when I saw Hairspray on New Year's Eve (it was snowing when I got into the city, not too bad, though) and was grateful for 'em!

oh just take the subway and walk the 200 feet to the theater. you won't die.
also, apparently no one is reading the entire advisory on weather.com
"THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM SATURDAY TO 8 AM EST SUNDAY.
...
THE LOW WILL PASS CLOSE ENOUGH TO LONG ISLAND THAT THE SNOW WILL MIX WITH SLEET AND POSSIBLY FREEZING RAIN LATE SATURDAY NIGHT ACROSS NEW YORK CITY AND LONG ISLAND LOCATIONS... HELPING TO LIMIT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS IN THESE AREAS.
TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS FROM THIS SYSTEM WILL RANGE FROM 6 TO 9 INCHES ACROSS THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY AND INTERIOR CONNECTICUT... AND FROM 5 TO 7 INCHES ACROSS NORTHERN NEW YORK CITY... NASSAU AND NORTHERN SUFFOLK COUNTY... AND COASTAL PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY."
this means that it'll probably pass by Sunday morning, and the city and some surrounding areas might only get 5 inches. that's nothing.

This has to be a sock. Please.
Yes, it might snow. Yes, the show might be postponed. Yes, there could be a blackout. Yes there might be a Ricin attack. Yes, The Cloverfield Monster might eat the theater. So? What ya gonna do about it?
jeesh
