#0what if " A Chorus Line" doesn't win the tony?
Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:24pmI mean, with the name of ACL alone, it's a no brainer that it should win the revival tony, but what if lost in an upset? what if "The Apple Tree" or "110 degrees" wins? the show has alot to live up to, given the amount of awards the original recieved, and now with the mixed reviews, we may have another "sweeney Todd" on our hands.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:26pmIt's not going to win the revival Tony. Not unless everything else this year is deemed "pedestrian" by the NY TIMES.

I don't think its a lock at all, it never was. Given the incredibly strong class of revivals this year, it wouldn't even be a surprise to see it not even nominated.
Another "Sweeney Todd" would be if "Company" has a similar fate.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:29pmbut ACL is broadway's baby. it's in the royal family of shows. not even getting a nom. would be a huge slap in the face.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:35pmThe win should not be based on the power of a name alone. I'm sure it'll get nominated, but it should not win just because it's ACL; that kind of logic defeats the entire purpose.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:35pmI'd be very surprised if ACL wins - it'll be between The Apple Tree and 110.

The original production was. This is different.
And, besides, if the revival was better than it is, we wouldn't have this problem.

Well, I daresay that Oklahoma is considered a legendary musical and the revival sure didn't win the Tony.
Just because ACL was a critical and audience hit in '75 doesn't mean it's going to have the same luck this time around. The critics found a few things to like about the revival, but in general, the critics said "Blahhh" to this production.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:37pmwell, I know that, of course that's not how I would vote, I was just wondering how it will all happen come june.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:38pmIt'll get at least a nomination (based on the history of the show and the love the Broadway community has for it) but I doubt it'll win.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:38pmI think Company, 110 and Apple Tree are much stronger contenders.

It's had mediocre reviews.
The original was brilliant. The revival isnt.
Two other broadway royalty shows are opening as well, Les Miz and Company. Company has the best buzz so far. I also think that The Apple Tree and 110 each have a good chance of upsetting.
ACL may not even be nominated for Revival. I thought the performers might have a chance, but none got stellar reviews, that I read. Tam and Goldyn may have an outside chance.
Until everything else opens and is reviewed, we wont know.

#14re: what if ' A Chorus Line' doesn't win the tony?
Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:41pmI wouldn't hold my breath for ACL. It also brings nothing new to the table either. Most of the Tony voters are old enough to remember the original and may see this as a pale comparison. Plus it hardly needs revival tony votes to insure a national tour, where one of the other shows could use the boost.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:45pmAt this point I'd say that Company is going to nab the Tony. it has great buzz and after sweeney's upset I think that people will push for Company. Plus, Apple Tree and 110 are both roundabout and many people were probably motivated to vote for The Pajama Game to the promise of a return/tour. The Apple Tree will have closed, so it has little shot beacuse out-of-towners wont have seen it.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 2:45pmI was talking to C is for Company about this and we concurred that Company will win because Sweeney didn't. Just as Brian Stokes Mitchell won for LaMancha and not for Ragtime. He himself ackowledges it as the win for the other show. ::Just a theory, neither of us have seen either show yet::

edit- wicked beat me to it.

Isn't this the first time in a while that there are even more revivals than there are nomination slots, though?
Company will get a nomination. I don't know that it'll win, with so many great shows up against it, but I so hope it does. And if it does, it will not be solely out of pity; it'll be well deserved.

What upset? I didn't think Sweeney deserved to win and apparently a lot of people agreed with me.
Without even seeing the other choices, I don't think that ACL deserves to win.

Pippin, the name is doodle, not doogle.
Rath, you WOULD be impossible, but I'd be your best friend anyway.
WickedGeek, BSM won his Tony for Kiss Me Kate, not LaMancha.
