ACL will definitly be nominateed along with Company, 110 & Apple Tree. I'm going to think Les Miz will be in a special category since it's limited.

As for actors, the only ones that'll probably get nominateed are: Jason Tam, James T. Lane, Charlotte D'Amboise(lead), Deidre Goodwin, & possibly Natalie Cortez and/or Heather Parcells.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

If ACL doesn't win - another show will. What do you think - that Broadway, as we now know it, will cease to exist?

Why would being a limited run place Les Miz in a special category? Plenty of revivals, including two of the likely nominees, are also limited runs.

I would be surprised if ANY of the performers from A CHORUS LINE are nominated, save for MAYBE Jason Tam and some female other than Deidre Goodwin and Charlotte.

Wow...that's as many acting nominations as the original cast, ACL...pretty wishful thinking.

I think The Wiz will win best revival. I hope the tony committee will frown upon the remounting of the original Chorus Line and Les Miz and snub them any nominations at all. Updated On: 10/10/06 at 03:31 PM

I don't think there's anything wront with reviving exact replicas of shows, especially like LES MIS, considering the show only closed a few years ago and it's for a limited engagement.

I don't see anything wrong with bringing A CHORUS LINE back exactly how it was, as long as they know that they are not going to be recognized for anything artistically. The only thing LES MIS and A CHORUS LINE have going for them Tony-wise are their casts. They're just simply not eligible for anything else.

For me, the issue is that comparing replicated revivals to re-invented revivals and new interpretations -- especially when the re-inventions have a leg up in that they're legendary, monumental shows -- feels a bit like comparing apples to oranges.

I basically agree with Munk. I have no problem with recreation revivals, but I don't think they should really be honored with Tony Award consideration. Years ago, most re-creation revivals played City Center, which was technically an Off-Broadway venue.

James T. Lane, Michael Paternostro, and Alisan Porter are the only ACL cast members worthy of a nomination.

Are the shows being bandied about for Tony consideration above even open yet?

Company, 110, Apple Tree?

That's thinking ahead of the game a bit, isn't it?

Well, unlike the latter two, several people on this board have already seen Company.

I saw ACL on the 7th and I really liked it. Dunno if it will win though.

Speaking about the name...

Marvin Hamlisch told our cast,
"The reason it's called 'A Chorus Line' instead of just 'Chorus Line' is because they listed the shows alphabetically in the NY Times."

haha, i thought that was clever.

And that A CHORUS LINE is a much more appropriate name than CHORUS LINE, but whatever.

God...a year off and were already on this?

Well, just from the cd's lol, I can say that the revival seems quite good. I mean, I dont think it'll win since nothing can compete w/ the oringinal (I personally thought they should've waited longer, like as in maybe 10 more years.)

From what I've heard (and read) Goodwin and, then can't remember they're names (so sue me lol), Diana and Paul seem quite good. And Maggie, although it's not the biggest part, she can still nab a nomination, IMO.

"I think The Wiz will win best revival"

Has The Wiz been announced for Broadway?

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

It's only been speculated, but not final. If THE WIZ did come to Broadway, it's possible that A CHORUS LINE will be snubbed altogether. As of now, A CHORUS LINE is only eligible in 5 categories - best revival, and the 4 performance categories. Unless they petition Berresse as leading, that narrows it down to 3 acting categories. I'm not sure if d'Amboise is good enough to land a nomination, being that her competition is so fierce. That brings it down to 2. I cannot see ANY of the featured actresses being recognized - none of them are particularly revelatory. Goodwin is pedestrian at best, Morales is fine (but nothing to write home about), and the others just don't shine enough to be remembered.

I'm still wondering how Donna got leading to begin with. Cassie, at least in this version, is not a leading character. The only lead I see in this show was Zach, but Berressee wasn't good enough for a nomination.

Was it that Donna had more gusto than Charotte?

Donna McKechnie certainly made the role seem leading.

I have to agree with Rath on this one. The woman is very talented, but just can't seem to really shine in anything. I like her as a performer...she's still my favorite Roxie Hart. But seeing her in A CHORUS LINE made me realize why she has not yet really stepped up and knocked anyone's socks off in a leading role. There's just something about her performance in A CHORUS LINE that made it seem like she was in over her head. And that's too bad.

I think I'm a great judge of the new production, having no prior connection to the show. I went in not knowing what to expect, not knowing who to care about, not knowing what I wanted or cared to see.

Based on the 1st matinee after the show opened, I say that there aren't any leads, at least in this version. I completely understand how others could have made leading roles out of it in the past, but nobody here seems to have enough connection or gusto with the roles to do that. I don't think they seemed like they were in too deep, but they just didn't connect. I suppose that was the glory of the original cast. The show WAS them.

With the award categories so full this year, I think it's safe to say that they'll be on their asses completely.

That being said, I did enjoy this production very, very much. I suppose that is because, as I stated above, I have nothing to compare it to. Updated On: 10/10/06 at 11:03 PM
