My vote goes to the ensemble of "Carrie". Have you ever heard any songs from this disaster? NOBODY in the chorus can hit the notes. No wonder it closed in five performances.
Someone earlier mentioned Ricky Martin in "Les Mis". I totally agree. It only proved that he can't sing worth a damn. Especially noteworthy was his butchering of "A Little Fall Of Rain". Urgh.

Ooooh. Good one.
Kathryn Crosby was dreadful in STATE FAIR. (As was Andrea McArdle, incidentally. She sang it well, but couldn't have delivered a flatter performance, though not one of the worst EVER.)
I'll also add my vote to David Hasselhoff, although the material is soooo atrocious, I'm not sure anyone could pull it off well, including Cuccioli.
More nominees:
Michael Crawford in POTO (I know, I know...)
Karen Ziemba in CHICAGO (although she's great in so many other shows -- Roxie is just not her role)
Molly Ephraim in INTO THE WOODS (the most boring Little Red EVER)
Barbara Barrie in FIDDLER (who was wisely replaced)
Terrence Mann in BEAUTY & THE BEAST, THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL and LES MISERABLES (how does this man get so much work in musicals when he can't sing?)
Sheryl Lee Ralph in MILLIE (but the perfect Deena Jones)
Vanessa Williams in INTO THE WOODS (why cast a Witch who cannot belt?)

Jon Secada. Cabaret.
Perhaps the most horrifying atrocity EVER.

are performances that came from stunt casting that was done to get box office returns. Proof that the whole stunt casting thing OFTEN fails miserably.

SEBASTIAN BACH in ROCKY HORROR.
he was a nightmare. too cocky, can't act, and constantly attempting to upstage any and every other actor despite his lack of talent and ability. sure, he can carry a tune, but he does NOT belong on ANY broadway stage.
also: Toni Braxton in Aida, Molly Ringwald in Cabaret, Beth Fowler in The Boy From Oz, Hunter Foster in Little Shop of Horrors, Marissa Jaret Winoker in Hairspray. ::chills::

Posted: 6/23/04 at 3:00pmUgh...David Hasselhoff...what a disaster. I would also like to add to the list Sebastian Bach in the tour of Jesus Chirst Superstar. I wanted to kill myself. And who can forget Christy Carlson Romano's tragic turn as Belle in BATB. Sweet girl, but OH GOD...someone get her off that stage.

I had the misfortune to see Tony Randall do Prof. Harold Hill on tour in Baltimore, and it was dreadful.
This is seconded only by Robert Goulet in Carousel - I saw him in Miami ( I was on tour in a different show). He was so drunk he lost his place 3 times in the soliloquy. When he came out to take a curtain call, it was the first and only time I've seen an entire audience start to boo.
Of course I agree also with DH in Jekyl/Hyde.
All three cases are going with a name before finding out if they can actually do the part.

I'll cast another vote for David Hasselhoff in J/H. Honestly, was that *really* necessary?
Also, Jon "don't make me touch the boys!" Secada in Cabaret. although it was a nice contrast to having seen John "ooh..boooys!" Stamos on the previous viewing.
Additionally on the Cabaret front, Tony Roberts as "Tony Roberts as Herr Schultz".
Jamie-lynn SopranosChick in Beauty and the Beast. Who knew cartoons could look so human?
