"Peter Lockyer is my favorite. He understudied Rodolfo in La Boheme on Broadway. I saw him in the role twice and he was absolutely brilliant. Now he's with the Phantom tour and he understudies the Phantom, Raoul, Piangi, and Andre. Wow. He's also the nicest guy in the world and the only actor who knows my name"
Ack! LOVE HIM! I saw La Boheme twice (had a cousin in the cast!!!!!!) and was in the third row once and Peter was Rudolfo...he has an AWESOME voice and the EYES on that guy! I had these old ladies sitting behind me going, "He's a very good-looking boy!" haha...I would LOVE to see him as The Phantom or Raoul...maybe the Broadway production is in his future?
Also, Cheyenne Jackson, Barrett Foa and Sebastian Arcelus...I know most are not thrilled with his Roger, but I thought he was an adorable Mark.

Posted: 9/1/04 at 9:51pmWas it during Mushnick and Son? It might have been the way he was playing it... The last time I did LSoH our Mushnick played it that way -- remember he's supposed to be slightly out of shape and up there in years...

Posted: 9/1/04 at 10:20pmHere's another vote for Peter Lockyer! Saw him several times in Les Mis, La Boheme, and this past month in Phantom. He needs to come back to New York!!!

Posted: 9/1/04 at 10:24pmso the reason you didn't like demattis is because he was too skinny and too little? that's just as "mean" as anything i said...interesting...

Posted: 9/1/04 at 10:54pmI haven't had the luck of seeing many understudies, but my favorites of the ones I have seen are Susan Owen as Christine in "Phantom of the Opera" (She was FABULOUS...I've seen the show four times and I think she's been my favorite Christine that I've seen), Kris Koop who understudies Carlotta, Christine, and Madame Giry in "Phantom of the Opera" has been incredible everytime I've seen her perform as either Christine or Carlotta, and Eden Espinosa in "Wicked" was great, too. I've heard a recording of Megan Campbell (the former Millie understudy), and she sounded really good, and I'm interested in seeing Linda Muggelston perform. But, I agree that understudies/swings/ensemble members and all the other people that work so hard deserve way more credit than they get because they are fabulous!

Posted: 9/1/04 at 11:04pmUmm...there's the obvious favorite, but for women, Linda Mugleston. I saw her in Into the Woods, at first I was a bit disappointed that Vanessa Williams wasn't in...I loved Linda! I'd love to see her in Wonderful Town- I heard her sing "100 Easy Ways" and - Wow! She is incredible.

First of all lildogs Rob is the best Mr. Mushnik! I love him in the role he was sooo funny! not saying his u/s wasn't good I just think Rob was wonderful!
My top list includes
Hollie Howard!! ~~ I have seen her as Penny and I know she goes on as Amber often
Rashad Naylor
Michael Longoria
Shannon Durig ~~ I like seeing her as Tracy
Darren Ritchie was great as Orin in lsoh
and I have seen pretty much all the u/s and swings for Hairspray and LSOH and they are a hard working bunch and I think they really should all get a lot more credit then they do!

Posted: 9/2/04 at 12:57amI adore Linda Muggleston. Also Matthew Shepard is the male swing in WT and I always enjoy when he goes on, I have a lot of respect for swings, they have to know so much.

Although Euan Morton was perfection in Taboo, I very much enjoyed Asa Somers when he was on as understudy to the Boy George role. He was different but still quite wonderful. I would love to see him in a lead role soon.
Marissa went out with the broken ankle right before the one time I had a chance to see "Hairspray" and so of course I was unhappy that I didn't get to see the girl everyone was talking about. However, Shosana Bean was excellent, and I think I like her singing better. Although from Row C it was obvious she was wearing a fat suit.

I have lots and lots of favorite understudies, but right now I'll only mention two with any detail...
One is Robert Hunt, who makes an amazing Javert, and a fun, pretty good Thénardier. He's finally being promoted to regular Javert on the Les Miz tour in the fall.
Another is DB Bonds, who I have seen twice as Raoul. OK, I admit, I like the character, unlike a lot of other people, but I really hope DB converted other Raoul-haters, because he was a wonderfully sweet and sincere Raoul with a killer voice to match.
It's also fun seeing understudies who are later promoted, and then play those roles forever and ever. Like Randal Keith.

Rusty Mowery(Dance Captain/Swing) and Michelle Kittrell(Brenda/Asst. Dance Captain) deserve mention for keeping the dancing as hot and clean as the day it opened. Plus they are both HOTTIES
