Born in 1980, so I'd say A Little Night Music, Company, A Chorus Line, and Chicago.

Sweeney I guess, but this is so hard for me. Compared to others on the boards I am so much younger. I could actually say Les Mis and would fit into the category. Umm so before 1988 there are dzens of shows that I adore, but my top favorite would be Sweeney
West Side Story although they were finishing Les Mis when I was born in June 1985 so I guess I can still say that
With the exception of PARADE, most of the shows I consider my favorites were written before I was born: Anything Goes, Company, Gypsy, Evita, Sweeney Todd, March of the Falsettos (In Trousers, too... Falsettoland is the only one that was written after I was born). Sunday in the Park with George came out the year I was born, but it was written before that (one would assume...)
My Fair Lady
Margo, are you trying to be funny, or are you serious? It's sometimes hard to tell w/ you.

I could almost say Phantom of the Opera-it opened only two years after I was born. But if I'm playing by the rules I have to say Jesus Christ Superstar and Sweeney Todd.

Les Mis, Cabaret, WSS, and Sweeney.

Company! Even though I don't know whether that's just because I adore the soon-to-be revival.
