I was just searching for pictures of the wiz and came across this youth theatre website with pictures of alll their previous productions. It looks like they have a huge set and costume budget, but I was most shocked by their sets for Titanic. They're bigger, better and even more historically accurate than the sets for Broadway and the national tour. It's depressing compared to the budgets of the youth shows that I've been in. Anyone else feel the same way?

Wow, those sets are very impressive. And apparently Max Crumm and Jordin Sparks have performed there.

Posted: 5/18/07 at 11:54pmI actually performed for this theatre as well. I was the Prince in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs about 2 or 3 years ago. When they did Titanic, they performed it at one of the local theatres in Phoenix. That stage is not the at the youth theatre. However, the youth theatre is VERY high tech. It is very small in terms of how many it holds, but don't let that fool you. The sound and lighting systems are amazing and definitely of professional quality. As far as sets and costumes are concerned, I'm pretty sure that it all gets done by parents of the performers and the husband and wife team that head up the place. It's a great theatre to perform for and, as was previously mentioned, has been home to some now popular performers.

WTF??? That gives "show off" a new meaning.
There are pics of Max Crumm doing Grease in there...too bad he's now going to be in a low budget production of the same show, compared to that one!

Posted: 5/19/07 at 1:36amIt's pretty crazy. It would appear that they rented some of the Madison Square Garden sets for their most recent Wizard of Oz and the McCoy/Rigby touring sets for their Peter Pan. What youth theatre can afford to do that?

Look at their board of directors. Usually a good indication. Boeing, Wells Fargo, and IBM. These are well connected people who make excellent fundraisers.

Very nice sets. I guess it depends what you expect from a "youth theatre," but if their shows are that good and bring in an audience, I don't see why they can't afford to build (or just as likely, rent) as good a set as any regional or stock theatre.
Their set for Titanic looks great. Unfortunately saying it's better than the original is not saying much. My pre-school Grandparents' Day shows had better set design than Titanic.
