Quarterly "Broadway In Memoriam" Light-Dimming to begin in June 2025 Mar 14
2025, 02:59:55 PM
I think this is a positive move away from the random, always controversial, and somewhat arbitrary individual dimmings. I still wish this included some last lasting memorial, like a plaza ground or a wall, that people could visit, since opportunities to actually observe the dimming are limited.

Word is that NYT is decreasing their theatre coverage and that they have a new policy to not run a major feature (which they did for this show) and also a review. So we may not get a NYT review. Seems odd to me.

I loved this in Chicago a few times - just a really fun show with great music, dancing and light-hearted comedy. I was super impressed with Jasmine Amy Rogers and Ainsley Melham. The biggest fix it needed was expanding and integrating DeRosa and Prince’s characters. Looking forward to seeing the changes in a few weeks.

Roundabout To Revive ROCKY HORROR Mar 9
2025, 11:52:51 PM
I’ve seen many, many productions of The Rocky Horror Show in the US and UK over the past 40 years. Some directors and cast get the concept, but so many do not. The last Broadway revival was fantastic, and I saw it eight times. One of the other great productions was at the Stratford Festival in 2018. I have fingers crossed for next year.
BTW, the original Broadway production opened at the Belasco Theatre 50 years ago today (March 10, 1975).

Bedwetter Broadway Transfer? Feb 26

KJisgroovy said: "I ADORED this show off-broadway but even as an advocate for the show it feels very small for Broadway. Even Kimberley Akimbo or Fun Home seemgrander and more sweeping than the tiny, very precise The Bedwetter. Tho... if The Band's Visit can make the jump I wouldn't count The Bedwetter out."
I felt the same. Loved it off-Broadway and still loved it at Arena. But I didn't see it as a Broadway show, but who knows? I said the same about The

A couple of years ago, right after lockdown, Playbills included something like this. I'm not sure if they still do anymore.

Can someone clarify as to what the specific type of humor is? (ie, Gentleman's Guide, 39 Steps, Book of Mormon, Monty Pythonesque British Humor?)"
I’d say like 39 Steps with songs. Or like Gentleman’s Guide, but only the Jefferson Mays parts. Also similar to presentation concepts in Gutenberg. I don’t see any similarities with Book

The Bedwetter at Arena Stage Feb 18

I saw this last week and also saw it at the Atlantic. It's now down to one act, the book hasn't changed much. There is one new song early in the show for Shoshana Bean, which was a highlight. I think it may be a David Yakbek composition, since he has added to the Adam Schlesinger score. There was an understudy in the lead role, who was very good. I heard it was her stage debut, which is incredible. There was a 1/2 hour technical hold halfway through for a set malfunction,

I had such a negative reaction to this show in London, I’m not sure I can bring myself to see it on Broadway. I just don’t get into these shows that have complex plots, small casts playing multiple characters, and the “aren’t we being so clever” approach to storytelling. I felt the same way I did seeing shows like Gentleman’s Guide, Murder For Two, Gutenberg, Mystery of Irma Vep, and most improv shows. It’s just a style that I have a low tolerance for

Saw this twice this week and loved it. The musical follows the first season of the TV series very closely. It has been edited to be shorter, dialogue has been trimmed, locations have been consolidated, but every song from the season is included. New music has been

DEAD OUTLAW To Open On Broadway April 27, 2025 Jan 28

And I adored it and thought it was the best show I saw last year. I thought it was a unique, charming and fascinating presentation of an unbelievable true story, with terrific, catchy, humorous, deadpan, original Yakbek songs and an amazingly talented cast. I wasn’t bored for a second. It will be interesting to see if critical feedback changes in the move to Broadway.

SCHMIGADOON! to play Kennedy Center Jan 22

I agree. I saw it twice in Chicago and thought it was very entertaining. No, it's not Pulitzer Prize material and yes, it could use some tweaks, but I had a great time.
