This mummy just won’t quit!
After an acclaimed, award-winning downtown run last year, the new musical Dead Outlaw comes alive on Broadway. Telling the so-ridiculous-it’s-true story of the inept bandit Elmer McCurdy, it stars Andrew Durand as McCurdy, alongside a slew of featured performers all playing multiple roles: Jeb Brown, Eddie Cooper, Dashielle Eaves, Julia Knitel, Ken Marks, Trent Saunders, and Thom Sesma. The tuner features a rip-roaring, original rock-folk score by David Yazbek and Erik Della Penna, with a book by Itamar Moses, choreography by Ani Taj, and direction by David Cromer. Concluding the slate of shows in the 2024-25 Broadway season, Dead Outlaw plays its first preview tomorrow night (April 12) before an official opening on April 27 at the Longacre Theatre.
“Dead Outlaw is the darkly hilarious and wildly inventive musical about the bizarre true story of outlaw-turned-corpse-turned-celebrity Elmer McCurdy. As Elmer’s body finds even more outlandish adventures in death than it could have ever hoped for in life, the show explores fame, failure, and the meaning — or utter meaninglessness — of legacy. Dying is no reason to stop living life to its fullest.”
Who’s dying to see this one?!

It’s the last show of our trip, and the first Broadway first preview I will have seen.

Telecharge digital lottery is now open - just $33 apiece!
Seeing it on Wednesday. I've done some reading on the true events it's based on, and really interested to see how this creative team has shaped that for the musical stage.
Won't be seeing this until May unfortunately. But I'm definitely excited for it and hope sales pick up.

I know it hasn't opened yet, but I bought the partial view $58 tickets in the second row mezz to the left. Are those good tickets or are they very partial view? They're an amazing price on telecharge for second row mezz so I had to grab them.
If it’s staged similarly, there’s a large portion of the show that takes place stage right, and some of it is the actors on top of a moving platform, so I imagine you’d miss a lot of that action.
Really hoping there will be more than just a digital lottery for this show as it’s one of the new musicals I’m most excited to see this season and I find the digital lotto’s nearly impossible to win most times…
Fingers crossed they announce an in person rush tomorrow!

I’m seeing in Monday from the last row of the balcony (also $33). I didn’t notice they were marked as partial view until after I bought, so I’m hoping they aren’t too terrible. The view on A View From My Seat doesn’t look too bad?

I'd imagine that those scenes are VERY visible from front mezz left, if its staged the way it was downtown. I, too, bought some partial view $58 seats for next week, front left mezz, and imagine that some of the entrances/exits on the left will be missed. But I saw it already downtown and dont mind missing some bits here/there at that price.

Oof, those are not ideal seats for this show. The closer and centered the better, imo.
Code “OUTLAW” shows discounted tickets, but then says they’re not available when you try to complete the purchase. 🙄
I got C 2, 4, 6 left orch. Hope they’re decent for this one. The pix look ok, but are obviously for previous shows.

Was at the invited dress tonight. Some things need tightening up and they need some time to find their rhythm. But dammit if this isn’t my favorite thing I’ve seen all year. A fantastic score, an INCREDIBLE book, and a pitch perfect cast. Far and away the best musical of the year.

Ok good, you made me feel better. I guess I'll see when I go to the show.

As of tonight, all but one Broadway house has a show running, and if nothing suddenly closes before May 24th, it will be the first time in a VERY long time that every Broadway house is open and active

So would it have been better to buy the mezz right tickets? I thought they were too far right to buy.

Is it better to sit on the right or left side of the theatre? Especially in mezz.

I was all the way house left in the mezz and I didn’t miss much. There’s maybe a 10 minute section where you can’t see the band as much because of the bandstand position sitting over there but I didn’t feel like I missed anything. Would be curious to see it from the other side but I don’t imagine you miss much on either side

yep, only Studio 54 is empty. what's even more surprising is that it seems like there are only a few shows in danger when looking at grosses(BOOP, Real Women..., Redwood, Floyd Collins?).
Floyd Collins is at a non-profit. Grosses shouldn't cause it to close early.

Yes, Lincoln Center is a non-profit subscription house, but it also has closed shows early in the past.

Flying Over Sunset ran November 11 - January 16, only 35 performances and 36 previews. I wouldn't expect the heartrending Floyd to have the same fate, but it doesn't seem to be selling well (I was at the Wednesday matinee, in house seats - Center row G - via TDF.)
I imagine Floyd Collins will run through Tony season at least because Jeremy will be a heavy favorite to win.

Definitely not even close to a favorite over Darren Criss or Andrew Durand.
