Thank you for posting this.
I saw her in Sweeney Todd, La Cage aux Folles, Into the Woods, and Kiss of the Spider Woman.
She was memorable each time.

I saw this live on Broadway, and it is one of my favorite theatre memories.
"The play was soup. The audience was art."

Response to Ermengarde:
From everything I've read about Arthur Laurents, I'm sure you're right; however, in this case it would be completely justified.
I did not know that about the orchestra. Thanks for the information.
And you are right. It's very poor.

I saw this Tuesday night.
I have rarely seen so many bad choices made by a production team. The direction, the set, the costumes, the choreography, the orchestra (if you can call it that), EVERYTHING is wrong.
Any production that can make a Jerry Herman score sound small and amateurish has a major problem.
If this had been my first exposure to La Cage aux Folles, I would have said that it is an awful musical. Thankfully, I saw the OBC at the Palace and know other

Steven Skybell is excellent.
Bebe Neuwirth's "What Would You Do" is one of the greatest moments I have ever seen.

THE ROOMMATE Previews Sep 3

I'm trying to be more positive, so I'm going to focus on that.
I thought it was oddly appropriate that once the house lights went down and the stage lights came up both actresses walked on stage and basically acknowledged the audience applause. I wouldn't exactly call it a pre-show curtain call, but it was close to that. After that, they took their places, and the play began.
Mia Farrow is sublime in this.

OH, MARY! Reviews Aug 24
2024, 06:33:10 PM
I saw this last night.
Inspired lunacy! The energy from the cast was incredible. I often find plays like this a bit tedious after awhile; however, that really was not the case last night. The scene at Ford's Theatre was pure gold, and the final scene was very funny, albeit a bit too long.
The cast was uniformly excellent. I particularly liked Tom Macht.
Fun evening!

I know there was a thread about this, but I can't find it.
If anyone has seen this, can you make a seat recommendation for a shorter person?
Is the first row too close?
Thank you.

Chita Rivera has died Jan 30
2024, 08:22:24 PM
In 1984 I was twenty-four and left my Southern state to fly to New York to see Chita Rivera in The Rink. I have loved her ever since. I made return trips to see her in Jerry's Girls and, most memorably, Kiss of the Spider Woman. Legend is a word too often bandied about. In the case of Chita Rivera, it fits!

THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA Off-Broadway with Tim Daly, Daphne Rubin-Vega and Lea DeLaria Jan 7
2024, 03:22:52 PM
Sinister Teashop, please elaborate on your statement. I always thought Williams had very little, if anything, to do with the Iguana film. The only thing I can ever remember reading about Williams and the film is that he objected to the casting of Ava Gardner.

Owen 22, you are absolutely correct. The film version is vastly superior. The screenplay is a major improvement over the stage version, and the cast is incredible, especially Ava Gardner and Grayson Hall.

I am genuinely sorry to hear this. I first became aware of her when PBS aired Taking My Turn in 1984 and later saw her in Harold Prince's 1994 Show Boat at the Gershwin. She was obviously a very dedicated performer. May she rest in peace.
