Favorite Old Tonys to Watch
 Jun 11 2025, 07:30:40 PM

Besides the ones mentioned, I love to watch the Tony numbers from No, No, Nanette as well as watch Patsy Kelly winning for that show and falling UP the stairs.

Encores! 2026 Update?
 Jun 10 2025, 08:00:14 PM

" I think everyone complaining about Billy Porter should re-watch this trailer from the Sam Pinkelton production at Pasadena Playhouse... there is no way in hell Porter could be worse"

Preach it, sister! I saw that thing.

Encores! 2026 Update?
 Jun 10 2025, 07:57:19 PM

" Jenny Gersten in the press release refers to, "the glorious original orchestrations for La  Cage Aux Folles"

After seeing that abomination in Pasadena, I am thrilled to hear this!!

The 78th Annual TONY Awards Performances!
 Jun 10 2025, 10:48:13 AM

I will be in New York next month. None of the musical performances on the Tonys inspired me to buy a ticket, and McDonald's "Rose's Turn" makes me want to avoid 44th Street altogether.

LuPone on McDonald

Although LuPone had no reason to apologize, I hope this ends all the mishigas.

Accusing LuPone of microaggression, bullying, and racism says more about the accusers than the accused.

I don't think this has already been posted.

NYT: ‘Is Betty Buckley Still Alive?’ Trump Asked. She Certainly Is.
 May 19 2025, 06:10:07 PM

Thank you for posting this.

Everything thing Betty Buckley said is warranted and beautifully articulated.

Charles Strouse has passed.
 May 16 2025, 10:36:25 AM

His score, along with Stephen Schwartz's lyrics, for Rags is one of my favorites.

I never tire of the overture for Applause.

And who can resist his and Lee Adams' "Hymn for a Sunday Evening"?

Broadway Flops you love that everybody else hates
 Mar 31 2025, 08:09:05 PM

I'm dating myself here.

I loved (I mean LOVED) The Rink.

The score, the set, the cast, the EVERYTHING!

Richard Chamberlain Dead at 90
 Mar 30 2025, 12:04:48 PM

I never got a chance to see him on stage, but his scenes with Barbara Stanwyck in The Thorn Birds are unforgettable.

Trump Wants to Host Awards, include businessmen and politicians as winners
 Mar 28 2025, 10:04:34 AM

Kevin said, "It's a non-profit. Who cares?"

I should hope someone in a position of authority at the Kennedy Center cares.

Forty million dollars in debt is inexcusable.

Is this debt figure accurate?

Will We Ever See a Best Little Whorehouse Revival?
 Feb 13 2025, 09:31:35 AM

Whorehouse was the first show I saw on Broadway.

I can still clearly see and hear Henderson Forsythe singing "Good Old Girl", and Jay Garner doing " The Sidestep".

I can also clearly remember descending the 46th Street Theatre's staircase from the mezzanine with a lit cigarette, missing the last three steps, falling, and catching a woman's dress on fire.

Merle Louise
 Jan 16 2025, 08:43:41 PM

Thank you for posting this.

I saw her in Sweeney Todd, La Cage aux Folles, Into the Woods, and Kiss of the Spider Woman.

She was memorable each time.

Lily Tomlin’s ‘The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe’ Is Back
 Dec 16 2024, 09:59:26 AM

I saw this live on Broadway, and it is one of my favorite theatre memories.

"The play was soup. The audience was art."

La Cage aux Folles at Pasadena Playhouse
 Nov 21 2024, 05:56:26 PM

Response to Ermengarde:

From everything I've read about Arthur Laurents, I'm sure you're right; however, in this case it would be completely justified.

I did not know that about the orchestra. Thanks for the information.

And you are right. It's very poor.

La Cage aux Folles at Pasadena Playhouse
 Nov 21 2024, 10:57:31 AM

I saw this Tuesday night.

I have rarely seen so many bad choices made by a production team. The direction, the set, the costumes, the choreography, the orchestra (if you can call it that), EVERYTHING is wrong.

Any production that can make a Jerry Herman score sound small and amateurish has a major problem.

If this had been my first exposure to La Cage aux Folles, I would have said that it is an awful musical. Thankfully, I saw the OBC at the Palace and know other

CABARET at the Kit Kat Club (2024) Opening Night Critics' Reviews
 Sep 4 2024, 11:42:10 PM

I saw this tonight.

Steven Skybell is excellent.

Bebe Neuwirth's "What Would You Do" is one of the greatest moments I have ever seen.

THE ROOMMATE Previews
 Sep 3 2024, 11:06:42 PM

I'm trying to be more positive, so I'm going to focus on that.

I thought it was oddly appropriate that once the house lights went down and the stage lights came up both actresses walked on stage and basically acknowledged the audience applause. I wouldn't exactly call it a pre-show curtain call, but it was close to that.  After that, they took their places, and the play began.

Mia Farrow is sublime in this.
