Broadway is the smallest and most niche of the major award sectors and the people who watch the Tony Awards care about the Tony Awards. Most theatergoers (or even fans of awards shows) aren't invested in seeing who wins best lighting or costume design when they may have only seen/heard of one or two of the nominees.
