That was the weakest opening I've ever seen.
Opening
Rule #1-- We need to HEAR the lyrics.
Rule #2--Never wear a color (gold) that mirrors the background.
Rule #3--Auditioning for J Lo's understudy on National TV is a no-no.
I've said it from her beginnings--DeBose has the best agent in show business.
Hells Kitchen segment is dull.

Is it just me or the stage looks scarily cramped and small? It's 7-9 people wide, which is the same size as a high school theater? Their venues in years past had larger stages but no matter which presenter is on, they're getting off so quickly and all the props look large. Hopefully shows with smaller casts will look better on there?

Opening number is a miss.
Hell's Kitchen is a miss.
Hoping this gets better.

Are we thinking they paid for all this airtime or CBS gave it in exchange for the Alicia/Jay-Z performance? There’s no way the other shows are getting this much time to perform.

HK’s book is awful - those writers put together this mashup apparently

The sound is flat and the energy is low.
Hell's Kitchen was meh. Where were they hiding Jay-Z? Lots of pitch/flat notes.

Not watching obviously. Who or what was the opening number please?

It was utter garbage. No need to watch it.
Hehehe. Now my interest is very peaked.
Adored that performance by ILLINOISE!

I love everything about Illinoise but whoever thought that was the best number to show on TV cost the show a whole lot of sales!

Illinoise was the best performance of the night. Suffs second.
I thought that Water for Elephants had the night's best performance. That and Merrily. Suffs did nothing for me.

They got a little over 7 minutes while the other shows performing 3-4 min. tops!

I had a complete opposite view. I thought those were both terrible.
