I know it's a day later, but I'm already thinking about next year.
Over the past decade, we've had a fair amount of celebrated and acclaimed off-Broadway transfers win Best Musical. For 23-24, we'll have Here Lies Love and, to a lesser extent, Harmony. Possibly even Days of Wine and Roses if it comes in. We'll see.
For revivals: Merrily, The Wiz, and potentially Damn Yankees with Bryan Cranston.
Yay for the new season!

Josh Gad and Andrew Rannell in Gutenberg is apparently going to happen.
I'm really curious about possible transfers that haven't been discussed widely yet. Some of the shows at The Public's upcoming season sound promising - Hell's Kitchen because we can't have a Tony season without a bio-musical nowadays and Sally & Tom might have some more juice after Suzan-Lori Parks just won Best Revival. And we can't rule out the possibility of Here We Are transferring from The Shed. Teeth from Playwright's Horizon could also happen.
Then there are possibilities from across the pond. Cabaret seems to be in an eternal holding pattern (probably to accommodate the schedules of its stars), The Motive and the Cue is apparently looking towards Broadway as well as The West End. Kenneth Branagh's King Lear is supposed to be a limited engagement Off-Broadway, but I could see it possibly moving to Broadway for the sake of Tonys. I could see Brokeback Mountain moving to Broadway on the strength of its stars and the material's name recognition. And, of course, if Paul Mescal's schedule permits we could see the Streetcar revival move over.

As always, I'm excited for the shows that seemingly come out of left field. Off-B hit that moves quickly after a nonprofit run, a star-driven production that comes together due to a scheduling change, an abrupt closing that leads to something else, etc. We've got a big musical staking its claim early in the season (HERE LIES LOVE), which will probably remain a Tony frontrunner unless/until something else comes and takes that position.

Where is The Notebook at? Still in the mix? Feel like it got mostly good buzz and then went quiet.

There’s just so many shows that are trying to get a theater, and there aren’t a ton of openings. It’ll be exciting to see which shows do get a venue!
I’m hoping for Kiss My Aztec and The Bedwetter for next season, but we’ll see what happens!

Sarah Silberman’s The Bedwetter is still being workshopped. Not sure if that’s going to go out of town first or just open on Broadway. Atlantic seems to be on a kick lately and hope A Secret Life of Bees has great success in London.

NOTEBOOK and PURLIE VICTORIOUS (with Leslie Odom Jr) are very much happening next season. Others here have reported that revivals of CHESS and TOMMY are definitely on for early 2024. BROKEBACK is aimed for Broadway, but I don't know the timeline.
Here's a non-exhaustive list of shows that have already played out of town but haven't announced Broadway plans yet. Anyone know anything? Any of them dead?
LEMPICKA
COME FALL IN LOVE – THE DDLJ MUSICAL
HOW TO DANCE IN OHIO
SUFFS
JOY
BROADWAY VACATION
THE KARATE KID
SECRET LIFE OF BEES
THE BEDWETTER
DAYS OF WINE & ROSES
THE SECRET GARDEN
Two musicals begin their out-of-town runs in Q4 of 2023: BOOP (a commercial tryout in Chicago) and REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES (Barry & Fran Weissler enhancing an ART production). Those could both sneak in by Tony time.

Please don't forget the one-woman show called SWIZZLE SWITS. The producers are hunting for a venue large enough to accommodate the huge crowds anticipated for it.

As long as Chip Zien gets his first Tony nomination in 2024, I'll be happy.
I'm curious to see which rumored musical revivals actually come to fruition.

Julie Benko will be originating her first role on Broadway this season. I’m sure she will get a nomination.

There are many things I enjoy about this forum, but seeing this thread emerge minutes into the new season is very near the top of the list!

Chicago is also getting “A Wonderful World” about Louie Armstrong that I would imagine has Broadway hopes.

Suffs is definitely coming at some point, but I'm guessing they'll want one more full production before making the jump to Broadway.

From all the recent social media postings, I would add TRADING PLACES to your list as well. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kenny Leon get a theater for that show next season.
It wasn't on your list, but one show I think we can say is safely dead, is Romeo and Bernadette, and thank the heavens for that lmao

From the limited things I've heard, I'd say Water For Elephants is a much more likely Alliance transfer. However, Kenny Leon tends to have a reverse Murphy's Law quality. Things just tend to fall into place for him.

In no way is her role "showy" enough to merit a Tony Nom --unless the field is incredibly small.

If it's a good production, I'd imagine that Jeremy Strong would be a likely contender for Best Actor.

I assume both Betsy Aidem and Francis Benhamou will be transferring with French Republic and that both would be likely to be nominated, with Francis especially a real threat to win. I know they were both considered featured at the Lortels, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them put Betsy in lead for the Tonys.
And, do we think it's possible that we could three for three on big Jewish plays for Best Play?

I really hope Paul Mescal's schedule clears up just to do a VERY LIMITED Streetcar Broadway run! Wasn't the West End transfer like 6 or 8 weeks and sold out before it even opened?

Harmony is definitely in the top spot for Best Musical for me as of now, with Merrily taking revival (even with Chess/Tommy/The Wiz coming in). I'm really curious about how Suffs will be because the production at the Public had a lot of promise but needed major edits.

NOTE: The Tony goes to the actress/actor not the part. The award Julie would be up for is called "Best Supporting Actress - not, "Best Supporting Part."

Yes, but if the role isn't meaty/interesting enough, she won't be on anyone's radar. And certainly no more "out there" of a comment then just assuming she will get a nom simply for originating a role.
