Also you saw it very early in previews before all the big changes were put in, right? So isn't it possible it's gotten a lot better?

I loved Caroline and HATED Grey Gardens. If we're taking a vote.

JustABroadwayBaby --

You're right about Rabbit Hole being about a boy who dies, but there is a troubled central relationship in that play between a mother and daughter (played on Broadway by Tyne Daly and Cynthia Nixon) so I think it does qualify as the kind of play the initial poster was looking for.

re: Is Broadway Gay???

While I too think it's pretty ridiculous to make generalizations about shows and sexual preference, I also think that some musicals ARE in fact gayer than other musicals, and do in fact appeal more to a straight audience. Case in point: I have a couple straight male friends who don't generally seek out Broadway musicals. And yet they were both interested and excited to see Spamalot. We all went together and had a great time. I invited these same friends to see the La Cage revival, and they h

re: Riedel's Tony Predictions

"Given the fact that the nominating committee were the ones who made the choice in the first place to deem "Chita" eligible for Best Musical, it seems the obvious pick."

Actually the nominating committee had nothing to do with putting Chita in the Best Musical category. The bone-headed Admin Committee did that. The nominators don't make any administrative decisions, they just nominate based on the categories the Admin committee have handed down to them.

re: Playwright David Lindsay-Abaire will discuss his new play!

This should be interesting. I might actually go if I'm not too swamped that night. Corine, are you going? Maybe you can get an interview for your website.

I'm seeing Rabbit Hole Saturday night. Can't wait!

Thanks for the continued good words for this show.

I got my tickets. I'm going next week. Can't wait!

I can not WAIT to see this show. So glad to hear how much you liked it, La Cage. And doubly happy to hear that Nixon and Daly are so good in it. I love them both so. And Mary Catherine too. What a great group of ladies. It's nice to know someone is writing good parts for women. And what a relief it will be to see a GOOD play at the Biltmore after travesties like Drowning Crow, and that Elaine May thing, et al. (Though I did love Sight Unseen in the space.)

How was the audience?

re: Ever seen an ensemble in The Last 5 Years?

WHY add an ensemble? How useless. And what a thankless role for those poor actors. Something for the resume, I guess. But what a dumb concept.
re: Abigail's Party or Rabbit Hole?
 Jan 5 2006, 08:54:28 AM
I really liked Abigail's party, but by the end I felt as if something was missing for me. I wanted just one moment where we saw Jennifer Jason Leigh crack a tiny bit. I wanted to see what was going on under all the bluster and vitriol. That said, she was wonderfully funny, and the rest of the cast was amazing, especially Lisa Emery.

Just got my tickets to Rabbit Hole. I can not WAIT to see this show. I've heard amazing things about it (mostly on this site) from people who saw readi

Thanks, Smaxie. Sounds like an intriguing play. I wish I had seen the reading.

As for the Second Stage confusion, yes Kimberly and Wonder were performed in the bigger MTC space, but Fuddy Meers was actually performed in Stage 2 (at least when I saw it) and then transferred to the Minetta Lane Theater downtown for a commercial run. And Corine was talking about Fuddy. But I shoud probably let her explain herself.

Thanks again for the Rabbit Hole reports though.

Maybe Corine meant Stage Two AT MTC? She did mention MTC subscribers after all.

As for this play being unlike anything Lindsay-Abaire has written before, GREAT! Bring it on. I don't need wacky, so long as it's still well-written. I'm looking forward to seeing something so different from him.

Smaxie, can I ask how you got to read the script? Did you see a reading? If so, how was it (other than sad in places.) In an earlier thread someone else had also read the script

Rabbit Hole Cast

They just announced that Mary Catherine Garrison has signed on for the last role. I LOVE her! I am so excited for this play. Cynthia Nixon, Tyne Daly, John Slattery AND Mary Catherine Garrison. (Not to mention that sweet boy from Kimberly Akimbo.) I'm sad I have to wait. I really hope I'm not disappointed when I finally see it. I can't wait.

Thanks for the link, luvtheEmcee, and the report. I'm so jealous. I wish I could've gone. But your report made me feel a little bit like I did. Thank you.
