THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES To Close January 4, 2026
 Dec 4 2025, 05:27:21 PM

Can anyone who saw both Kristin Chenoweth and Sherie Rene Scott comment on their differences in performance? I saw both of Sherie's evening performances (a little better vocally the first night, looser the second/last time) and am not sure if I have it in me to see the show a third time. I've only seen Kristin perform "Caviar Dreams" and "This Is Not the Way" in filmed tv spots and in both she's trying so hard to do that bluegrass Broadway twang that I couldn&#

Jennifer Lopez to Star in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN Film

I'm so sad and disappointed in how little fanfare there was for this film.

I'm a complete civilian, but seems like the producers went out of their way to give the film a wider theatrical release instead of partnering with a streaming service. The musical numbers definitely deserve to be seen on a big screen, but I wonder if they had partnered with Netflix or Amazon initially, would there have been a larger ad campaign? Streaming services will sometimes put a film in theatre

FOLLIES Movie Adaptation in the Works!!
 Oct 4 2025, 01:47:07 PM

Jeffrey Karasarides said: "Near the end of a recent episode of The Director's Cut podcast, Bill Condonrevealed that he actually pitched to Sondheim his idea for a Follies film. His concept was to take the songs in the more realistic medium and make it about what he, Hal Prince, and Michael Bennett were all going through when they created the musical. Sondheim liked the idea, but one collaborator said "Over my dead body.""

Well, in that case... is Sutton a Tessie or Mazeppa?

RAGTIME 2025 Previews

Does Caissie still mix/belt most of Mother's material or is she using more head voice? It was odd for such a restrained character to be so full throated (and I've always loved Lynn Ahrens's comment that Mother does not really belt until "Back to Before" as she is now thinking and feeling in more modern ways).

Who will be the next Broadway Madame Rose?

Not sure if Amy Sherman-Palladino is still trying to get her version of GYPSY produced, but I've always assumed she had Bunhead Sutton Foster in mind to play Rose.

I'm so curious how the Ford's Theatre/Finale quick change works. The evening I saw Jinkx, Kumail and Martin Landy definitely seemed to milk/slow down the beg

Transport Group to Present HELLO, DOLLY! at Carnegie Hall
 Jun 14 2025, 06:39:34 PM

If the concert is like last year's Follies, the Co-Hosts basically just fill in the storyline between songs and sometimes offered brief insights about the making of the musical. I have a feeling DiLella's main job will be keeping Lee Roy Reams on a short leash so he doesn't start bounding from one tangent to another.

Which Death Becomes Her Is Better? Movie or Musical
 Jun 13 2025, 01:05:01 PM

I think both the movie and musical start coasting once both ladies realize they have drunk the potion, but the musical has a more satisfying conclusion. It's been a while since I've seen the film all the way through, but does Ernest get drunk in the "second act" and start hallucinating talking inanimate objects in that too?

Charles Strouse has passed.

I have no idea how the revised version compares to the original, but I wish Encores would stop trying to be a worklab for revisals. Seems they always leave the audience somewhere between disappointed and disgruntled.

Judy Kuhn was absolutely ravishing singing "Blame It on the Summer Night" at this spring's Broadway Leading Ladies concert and she would definitely be my pick to play Rebecca in a City Center (or any!) production.

So, has the SMASH ending been changed since opening or not? When I saw the musical in previews...
