Oh please, it won't be nominated not because no one knew existed, just nobody cared much for it. Did JLo pay for that article?

There wasn't anything that felt truly Oscar worthy about it, though. It was perfectly bland. Nothing stood out as particularly great. It certainly isn't worthy of a Razzie, either. Nothing stood out as particularly bad. Ultimately, nothing stood out at all; it was just fine.

Seconded.
I agree with everything mentioned above. In retrospect, the accolades the film and its cast received during the film’s festival run sadly intoxicated their brains and it’s quite evident on the countless Q&A panels and Lopez’s endless amounts of interviews and podcast appearances, including the raves everyone was bestowing on her and everyone else. It truly did feel like this was THE project that was finally going to get her the career recognition she so wants. Her delusions that she is vocally up-to-par of Broadway caliber kind of put the nail on the coffin. It’s was the “okay, girl - calm down” moment when it just all went black. After much hype, the film premiered and no one went. Then it quickly disappeared as if the past several months never existed. No one anywhere, until now, has mentioned the film or even the work in it. Everyone, including the cast and crew, has moved on.
It was forgotten while it was still playing in movie theaters.
It wasn't great, it wasn't bad, it was just (to quote "Whatever Happened to Pizza at McDonald's") "pretty good, for the price." People will find it if they look for it, and mostly walk away satisfied, but... that describes most things.
It's a pretty good movie few saw and the Oscars will ignore.
We already did and bless your heart, Variety.
It has a a not-so-long shot at Costume Design. Most pundits and ranking sites have it sitting somewhere around 6th to 8th place in that race. But that's it. It stands virtually no chance at any other category, especially since the Golden Globes (who have entire separate categories for Musical/Comedy and love when stars like JLo get dramatic) omitted it entirely. It failed to show up on any of the recently announced Oscar shortlists. It's more than likely toast. I did enjoy it though.
This isn’t winning any Oscars, including for design.

You need to be nominated in order to win an Oscar. Sadly, this film won’t be getting any Oscar nominations so no one will be upset for not winning.

At first disappointed, they aren't alone. 4 musicals were not nominated for the globes best picture, this, wicked, ann lee, song sung bleu
I'm sorry but it's a terrible adaptation of a great musical with a over rated leading actress who should have been forgotten decades ago.
The biggest killer is that they're doing nothing to promote the movie. I've said it before, but once the movie came out, Tonatiuh has literrally been the sole voice keeping this name in anyone mind's. If they even put a couple of bucks into promotion, it would have at least been remembered by the Globes.

It's odd to me that it still isn't out on Blu-ray, making me wonder if they aren't going to bother. Kinda sucks, but it is available streaming, so that's something. Personally, I like owning media.
I saw this yesterday on streaming and wow! Ok, so I had never seen the musical or heard any music from it before. I didn't even know anything of the plot going in. I just saw the trailer and thought some movie star was gonna help some poor boy get successful or something. It was surprisingly extremely gay, and that was awesome. I thought it was a great movie, but that's probably just because the material was already great, because the actors, while good, did not give outstanding performances that made me feel. That could have been a directing problem too, but I don't know. Why does Bill Condon suck so bad? Has he directed any good movies? And is he gay because he wrote the adapted screenplay in addition to directing am I right? But there was a lot of great dancing and some good costume design. I actually loved it, only real big downside I would say is the music is not very melodic and therefore forgettable.

The studio, Roadside Attractions, also has yet to have last year's The Last Showgirl released on physical media in the United States. Although it is at least currently available to stream on Hulu.

I tried very hard to get through that whole movie... I can understand why Roadside wouldn't want to invest the money to create any physical media version(s).

Tonatiuh was incredible in this movie. He is being overlooked because of all the hatred for JLO as is Diego Luna who was also very good.
and to be honest she was pretty good in the part that required her to basically overact and she sang and danced really well as far as I was concerned, I am a big advocate for the musical, having seen it 5x and loved ithe musical. I figured I would hate this version. . I was not thrilled by all the cuts to the songs but was actually surprised how much I liked this and it was because of the leads were all really good. I think have of the hate for this movie is because JLO was cast, because if all the people that post about how bad it was went and actually saw it , the movie would have been a blockbuster lol

Prior to the film’s release, Lopez did a crazy hefty amount of promotion, from being on every major talk show (morning and nightime), every major video podcast (Howard Stern, Las Culturistas, etc) and was even profiled on CBS Sunday Morning, so major promotional push was loaded onto her. Once the film died at the box office upon its release, she quickly disassociated herself from it so any promotion they chose to continue with was handed over to Tonatiuh, whom they thought would be the breakout star from the film and sadly, was wishful thinking.

Although Tom Kirdahy has been sharing on his Instagram stories whenever the movie has received nominations from any awards group.
If anyone would like to put in a good word for the movie itself in any category, feel free to do so in the 2026 Gold Derby Film Awards. Nomination voting has just launched and will last until the end of January 17th.

I loved this little film, and I am a KOTSW purist. I think the two male leads were excellent, the cinematography was lush, and felt J-lo was decent enough. I hate that know one knew this film even existed.
I am embarrassed to say just because the leads didn't get recognition that's probably why I didn't think they were good enough. They were great, just like I thought the whole movie was (minus wishing the music was more memorable and that Jlo could sing better).
