In many ways, this was really inevitable. But I'm more excited about Jennifer rather than Arian in the role.
That said, Bill Condon's been delivering diminishing returns with each project. Hopefully this project, being independently financed, will give him some inspiration.

She's definitely a more exciting choice. Just hope it's a film with high standards, she tends to star in awful flicks.

What the ever living hell? It’s like a theater Mad Libs. Could be cool but she’s had also been attached to many unrealized projects over the years I think.
This is probably the best move she could make career wise. She was brilliant in Hustlers, and it was about a dancer. This role is mostly dance, and I think it’ll be a high point for her acting career. That being said…
Bill Condon doesn’t inspire much confidence. If Rob Marshall could recreate the magic of Chicago, I would have preferred him.

At first glance, JLo doesn't really seem to have the commanding presence in her vocals for this type of role, but will surely dance the hell out of it. A great director could coax out the right type of performance, however...I'm not sure Condon is the director to do it. Dreamgirls is enjoyable because of the incredible performances, but the movie has lots of structural issues which hold it back from being truly great imo. And then there's Beauty and the Beast which is just an absolute mess, watching it made me want to pop in the original immediately to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Sooo not the best track record with movie musicals. He has other films which are charming and engaging (Mr Holmes, The Good Liar, Gods and Monsters, Kinsey), but they are all really bolstered by wonderful performances by the central actor(s) who elevate the material. I'd much prefer they go to the Chicago formula of having Condon write the script and get Rob Marshall to direct it.
After the diminishing returns of Rob Marshall's work post-Chicago, I am perfectly fine with him staying away from this, even if it's a musical that he knows well (he co-choreographed the original)
I would be interested to see how someone like Greta Gerwig approached the material. She brought out arguably the greatest* movie musical performance of the year from Ryan Gosling.
She will be able to sing the title song OK, remember this is not live theater. I am excited regardless there are other stars in the movie or not, I just hope it happens!
