Musical Aims To Put Cruz's Name Back In Lights

Latin-themed musicals are a rare commodity in the theater business.

But an upcoming production based on the life of Cuban music queen Celia Cruz has potential to reach Latin and mainstream audiences in a major way.

The biggest draw of "Celia: A Musical Journey," set to open September 12 off-Broadway at New World Stages, is the artist's name.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on January 21, 2007.

Anyone think this show will be a hot ticket?
I'm wondering if I should wait to buy my tickets or buy them right away.

Last Friday at "Butley" they were selling autographed playbills for $20.00.
The song is called 'Mad World' written by Gary Jules

I saw Butley too and I thought that Gary Jules version of "Mad World" was a great fit with the ending of the play. I even downloaded the song and made a slideside with the song & Butley photos for the heck of it.

I hope it's okay to post this here. If anyone is interested I have 2 tickets for this Friday's show at 8pm that I will not be using. Seats are Center ORCH, row BB, second row from stage! Asking for $175.00 but I'll consider any decent offers. I don't live in NY so if you're interested, please message me asap. Thanks.

re: Regarding Butley...

I saw Butley last Friday. Mr Lane did not dissapoint me. I thought he gave a wonderful performance as Ben Butley. I felt like I was on a emotional rollercoaster ride. It is a very dark, intense show but Nathan as well as the other cast members give strong performances and it's a well written play.
I understand why some people may not like the show because it's not a "fun" or happy play to watch. Butley's world as he knows it, is crumbling before him and he's fighting back by using his wit an

I saw Jersey Boys on Thurday (11/9/06) and they were collecting donations after the show at the door for BC/EFA. For a $40.00 donation I got to be in a picture with the 4 guys. I got a polaroid with a photo holder that had the 4 guys signature in it. They were also selling autographed posters and also the Christmas music CD (I think it was autographed too).

At "Fame Becomes Me" this afternoon, they auctioned an autographed photo of Martin Short that was used in the show. They were

7 out of 5 for Butley! Wow! I'll be seeing Butley next weekend.
Get any autographs after the show? Did you see Nathan exiting the theater?

Cool. I'm also coming from down south to see the show for the first time in 2 weeks. I'm very excited.

Great interview. I thought it was interesting when they were talking about the audiences. Audiences should definitely be more conscious and respectful of actors on stage when we go see plays.

I heard he comes out through the front of the theater.
