Does anyone know which song is played at the end of the performance? And who is the singer? (I was thinking Gene Clark)
Thanks!

Posted: 11/28/06 at 12:10pmI checked the Playbill, and couldn't find anything (which doesn't mean much, I could have missed it). Hence my asking to see if some kind soul could help...

I wish I could, but I haven't seen the show.
Where in the Playbill did you check? Song credits are usually listed after the bios amidst the credits. After the producers, general management, press, casting, stage managment, assistants, coaches, associate designers, dressers, insurance, payroll, marketing, photographer, etc. Then there is CREDITS where it usually says "scenery built by ......" The song titles are usually in bold. If not bold, then in quotes.

Here is the lyric:
All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me
And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world ... mad world
Enlarging your world
Mad world

Yes, they use that song at the very end.
I don't know the name, but, well, it's the Donnie Darko song :-p
I found it an odd choice to end the play, even though the lyrics ARE appropriate

Only part of it is used at the very end.
All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
It is actually quite appropriate for the ending of the play.

You should see it, munk. The play itself is very well written, and although Nathan Lane isn't quite right for the part, he gives a heartfelt, and at times, very bold performance. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The music choice is odd, because it's a period piece - but the lyrics are perfect, and it fits the mood. A bold choice that, I believe, pays off.

Posted: 11/28/06 at 3:17pmI have been putting it off because I'm not a big fan of the play, and I'm not a big fan of Nathan Lane. I will see it eventually, though.

I went to see it with 2 people who are HUGE Nathan Lane fans. And they hated it, because they expected him to be, well...Nathan Lane. Over the top, obnoxious, funny man Nathan Lane. They thought it was too dark, and his character unsympathetic.
I quite liked it, though, for those very reasons.

Posted: 11/28/06 at 5:48pmI saw Butley too and I thought that Gary Jules version of "Mad World" was a great fit with the ending of the play. I even downloaded the song and made a slideside with the song & Butley photos for the heck of it.

That's so odd! I recently became like OBSESSED with this song, for no apparent reason. My friend played it and I heard it and loved it so much I taught myself the piano for it. How strange it seems to be popping up everywhere all of a sudden...
It is a great song though :P
