GHOSTS at Lincoln Center - Great Cast!
 Jan 6 2025, 01:17:55 PM

ColorTheHours048 said: "Given how suddenly this starts previews relative to this kind of under-the-radar casting announcement, does anyone else suspect a last-minute dropout from one (or multiple) of the roles?"

I was hearing Lily and Hamish with Ethan Hawke over the summer, but maybe my source was confused.

BACK TO THE FUTURE will close January 5, 2025
 Jan 5 2025, 01:53:47 PM

Dare I ask, but is anyone attending the final performance this afternoon?

I was planning on attending because I liked this silly show, but arrived a little too late at TKTS yesterday. I considered this a sign and made peace with my final viewing of this production being Hugh Coles' last in June.

Your Personal Top 10 of 2024
 Dec 30 2024, 02:22:34 PM

Why not?

1. The Who's TOMMY (Ali Louis Bourzgui's voice is my joy)

2. Maybe Happy Ending (what more can one say than to tell others to buy tickets and experience this miracle themselves)

3. Dead Outlaw (finally getting the cast album for this next year is one of the only reasons I'm looking forward to 2025)

4. Macbeth at Shakespeare Theater Co. (crossing Ralph Fiennes in Shakesp

I would like Ali Louis Bourzgui to be in this, it doesn't matter as who.

TKTS and Sunset Boulevard
 Dec 23 2024, 11:01:54 AM

You can monitor the TKTS booth live at this link.

From what I have seen, Sunset is routinely listed with a 40% discount, sometimes 50%.

Also, go to the Lincoln Center location! It opens at 11 am and it's indoors which will be to everyone's benefit given tomorrow's forecast.

What notable shows did you MISS?
 Dec 23 2024, 02:09:56 AM

If only I were a few years older I would've loved to have seen the original productions of Arcadia, The Who's TOMMY, Kiss of the Spider Woman, the '92 Guys and Dolls revival, Cherry Jones in The Heiress, and Ralph Fiennes in Hamlet

There are a few shows off the top of my head that I regret not seeing when I could've: the Dillane/Ehle The Real Thing, LaChiusa's The Wild Party

'Swept Away’ to Close on Broadway December 15
 Dec 13 2024, 07:42:17 PM

As of right now, all performances from 12/18 - 12/29, minus the final final performance, are up on TDF.

'Swept Away’ to Close on Broadway December 15
 Dec 10 2024, 10:11:43 PM

Sigh. I have a pair of TDF tix for what would have been the final performance on December 15th at 7:30 pm. If anyone is interested, PM me and we can figure something out.

Playbill posted this story earlier with the following closing:

Theatre professionals interested in attending the upcoming reading should email Info@WhitleyTheatrical.com.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 12/1/24
 Dec 3 2024, 03:17:40 PM

What a mistake it was to bring Swept Away in for a commercial run. One could argue that they couldn't have picked a worse time of year to open but was there ever a good time? At least we have a cast recording to look forward to.

New Musical, DEAD OUTLAW, from Penna/Yazbek/Moses

No, hence why I mentioned their vague messaging. Yazbek has made reference on his socials that they are waiting for just the right theater (in my mind that's the Booth) so I'm prepared to wait until next fall if need be.

I was there tonight, anyone else? Very vague "come see us on Broadway" messaging and it sounds like the Audible recording won't be coming until 2025 (sigh). I LOVE this score, but curiously the big marathon runner number that everyone thought was superflu

SWEPT AWAY Broadway Reviews

I was at the matinee too. I still have reservations concerning the book but there's enough negativity out there, so let's focus on some positives: Adrian is a STAR (if he wants it; his band is involved in some interesting projects of their own right now). I unabashedly love the Captain's song. The shipwreck sequence is very cool, I was really impressed by the wind effect!

My tix were via TDF: row H house right orch. Excellent view.

TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA rock musical in concert starring Jordan Donica et al.

This intrigues me because I don't know the material at all. All I know is that it took home Tonys for best book and musical, edging out Follies

Swept Away Seating Question
 Nov 22 2024, 10:52:38 AM

From what I've heard, the mezz is preferable because the stage is very high. Based on that,  I'd recommend sitting in the mezz for the full stage picture.

I'm going tomorrow; TDF will probably put me in the front row with my luck.

MAYBE HAPPY ENDING Reviews

Jordan Catalano said: "I’d fear “Dead Outlaw” would suffer the same fate, in that theater."

Unfortunately, I agree. I saw Maybe Happy Ending again last night (a discount code was still working when I bought the tickets at the box office on Friday) and while sitting in the Belasco preshow the thought of Dead Outlaw opening and also quickly closing crossed my mind (and where is that cast album).

TAMMY FAYE Previews

I think the performances on GMA turned me off from seeing this show more than the poor reviews in this thread. I don't think a cameo from Uncle Baby Billy himself would get me to the Palace at this point.
Finalizing a great NY trip!

The reviews for We Live in Cairo weren't great. I saw it in early previews and thought I was being reductive when I told several friends that it very earnestly wanted to be a new RENT, but a few of the reviews I have came across echoed the same. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have exhausted all other options.

Very curious to see how this is received in New York.

I read the "spoiler" on Reddit, and it's not that far off the mark from my feelings after seeing it in DC, so I'm going to be presumptuous for now and say that it sounds like the work that needed to be done on the book wasn't.

There used to be an understanding that if one was at an invited dress that they wouldn't run around posting spoilers but I guess that era is long gone.
