Jackie Burns to get a final If/Then Performance Jan 18
2015, 05:03:45 PM
Sorry, not going to happen. It would cost more than they would make in ticket sales for a planned performance absent Idina. Hence why they cancelled all shows surrounding the Super Bowl while Idina is traveling. Unless Idina gets sick, Jackie will not go on.

Which is harder: Originating a role or re-doing a role in a revival? Oct 8

SJB did some early readings - and was replaced by Idina during workshops toward the end of 2000. This was well before they were in preparation for the SF pre-Broadway tryout.

Idina Menzel with NY Philharmonic Saturday Feb 6
2011, 11:15:34 AM
I can't believe how many people were at the stage door. She literally got bombarded when she came out. I got an autograph, but out of the 75ish people who waited an hour and a half for her...maybe 10 of us got one. It was a great show though. Surprisingly, Poker Face was my favorite!

Teal Wicks is Broadway's Next Elphaba; Kyle Dean Massey to Return as Fiyero Jan 2
2011, 12:15:41 PM
In the debate as to whether anyone can play Elphaba for more than 10 months and survive - Kerry Ellis played her for around 2 years. Taking over from Idina in Jan 2007 and leaving the London production in May 2009 with the Broadway run in between. Her voice is still in place and she took up another musical very soon after. Admittedly she broke herself early on in the run (on the first night almost) but she seemed to learn from that and recover. From what I've heard - Kerry Ellis

SJB as Miranda Hillard! They can just write "Get Out And Stay Out" into the show, right as she kicks him out of the house

But do you still love Idina Menzel? Irrelevant, but yes. I'll reinforce my love for her after I see her with the NYPhil Feb. 5th :)

I saw Kyle in Next To Normal. I can't stand his whiney voice. He is nothing like Aaron Tveit. I didn't see him in Wicked, so I'll save that judgment for now.

fingerlakessinger, I think the role is manageable without an alternate with a 6-9 month contract. It's the Elphaba's who do an entire year, or transfer between multiple productions, that have screwed over their voices.

There should be NO alternates! If you can't belt it out at least eight times a week, find another job. I think I will go see Teal Wicks. She sounded great at the start of her LA run. I'll just be crossing my fingers she doesn't take a breath mid-note at the end of defying gravity. Well, it might be funny to see ;D

"Only one of those statements are true. Jennifer's a great standby, but she definitely could handle the role 8 times a week. She has said that the stage door that she regularly takes voice lessons, and she's overall fierce. At least she'll have more time to be on with Teal as lead." I have to disagree. I don't think she has the power to do it full time. Clearly others feel the same. They transferred her from Chicago to Broadway, flew her to Australia to cover, and overall have kept her

"Why don't they just let Jennifer DiNoia do the role? She has been s/b or u/s for quite some time now. I saw her October last year when Dee was out and she was great. They should just give it to those s/b who are performing well." Because Jennifer DiNoia is a good STANDBY. I really don't think she could handle the show 8 times a week. CLEARLY Wicked went with a cheap casting move by bringing Teal to Broadway - they could have been even cheaper and given Jennifer the role full-time. But

Considering her final performance in San Fransisco was repulsive, I'm not sure Teal is a good judge in her vocal capabilities. Any sane being would have stepped aside instead of trying to fulfill some future nostalgia. Considering, she failed anyway! I really hope she got her act together. And geez people, Mandy is a great performer, but I don't hold her in such high regard with Wicked. I personally don't think Wicked's had a GREAT Elphaba since SJB left the production.

Mandy Gonzalez in Wicked Nov 11
2010, 11:16:05 AM
I didn't really like Mandy. I saw her last month. Her acting was great, singing was of course powerful, but she adds these awkward riffs here and there; I even cringed during DG, which was very disappointing. I've seen the show ten times, and although I wouldn't say she was my least favorite (that goes to Kerry Ellis during her Broadway run), she wasn't far behind. As for Caissie - I would love her to replace Mandy on Broadway. And I have a feeling she is returning to Wicked based on ru

re: Jennifer DiNoia to play Elphaba in Wicked Sydney for next 6 weeks. Nov 2
2009, 07:44:45 PM
I don't understand what goes on down there. OBVIOUSLY Amanda Harrison should be cut! She's missed more shows than she's performed since the opening in Sydney. Jemma Rix is doing extremely well and can easily handle the role. And now Jennifer is transferring? As standby I hope? Poor Jemma has gotten extremely little recognition for the amount of work she's put in. Ever notice how Amanda shows up to all the press events? I thought it was funny how once Amanda was there to answer questions
