Best New Musical and Best New Play of the DECADE (So Far?) Nov 21

I think I'll say ''Kimberly Akimbo'' for Musical is like a non-brainer.
I don't think I have a say yet in plays, but maybe... ''Fat Ham''?

As we approach half of the decade there many editorials making lists about the best books, tv shows, movies, albums and so on of this decade.
I thought maybe we could make some for theater?
I think the only rule is that the first production needed to be from 2020 onward.
Mind share some lists or single picks?

Back when ''KPOP'' closed I tried to get all the 2000's musicals that closed ''early'' and that was the Top 15 I found:
1. Glory Days 1P 2. The Story of My Life 5P 3. High Fidelity 14P 4. KPOP 17P / Amour 17P 5. Leap of Faith 19P 6. All About Me 20P 7. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer 21P 8. Doctor Zhivago 23P 9. Hands on a Hardbody 28P / The Times They Are a-Changin' 28P 10. Scandalous 29P /

''Cabaret'' was not universally well received from day one.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 10/6/24 Oct 8
2024, 09:33:25 PM
Given how much ''Back to the Future'' had as a weekly nut, I can't imagine it gave back much to the investors even if its on Broadway over a year. It was 1-1.1M for running, and most weeks the show did 1.2-1.3M? I believe they will close on a big loss.
''Cabaret'' numbers are horrible, if Redmayne's salary didn't impact the weekly nut, then the 24M (?) production will be a big fat flop because if the first replacement is not working, then the

Gavin Creel has passed away Sep 30

I got the news and couldn't believe, what a loss, a real tragedy!
I saw him so close when watched ''Into the Woods'' and adored him much prior than that.
We I read ''we lost our prince'' at the CityCenter account I had no choice but cry.
RIP dear Gavin!

I mean, Merrily sold incredibly well and I think just as many people know Groff as know Audra. Company sold with the biggest name being Lupone. Nowadays, on Broadway do you have to have a massive star to be successful, is good interpretation and good material not enough anymore for a show. (I'm not saying you all don't value these thi

Little Shop...Who Leads? Anyone know? Sep 19

This show has around 1,400+ performances til now. I know the original production lasted 2,209 performances.
How many Off-Broadway productions of musicals ran as much as those two? Like, over 1,000 performances. I love those stats, but can't find much on the internet about Off-Broadway shows.

Good point. The important thing to me is the number of shows, over 1400 is impressive especially since so many recent winners don't make 1,000."
In fact, with this week, they just beat How to Succeed in Business Without Real

Just my 2cents because I really followed this race, but while last year was amazing, this year was ok for me. Not really different aside from the fact that DeBose (whom I love) was really lackuster. The camera work could be better, but most shows simply didn't have great numbers.
I think even with papers, most speeches were absolutely PERFECT. Groff, Young, Branden and many others.
Danya was the only shook of the night for me (I got really good winner predictions), and someh

CABARET at the Kit Kat Club (2024) Opening Night Critics' Reviews Jun 19

Next time I'll be in NYC, Eddie will be long gone from this production, as I wanna see the show, I hope the replacement is really great.
If they go through the West End routine with supporting actors from TV Shows, they won't last.
But again, they probably won't because the reception in NY was not the same as was in London.

I love that Kelli has a Tony, but the fact that her two most amazing and nuanced performances were for shot-run/flops is so sad, she should be a two time Tony winner for two incredible difficult roles.
