Chicago The Musical Appreciation Thread  Mar 8 2024, 01:09:23 PM

Robyn Hurder is going to be a breath of fresh air.

also Mikayla Renfrow has joined the cast as Liz/ u/s Velma

SPAMALOT sets closing date  Mar 6 2024, 11:24:25 AM

I’m not surprised by this. There was a rumor floating around Reddit that the principals were asked to take a pay cut to keep the show going.

The show really could have been great had some effort been put into updating the show with modern references, instead of the same ones from 20 years ago. Not to mention the recycled costumes (I know a few of Leslie’s were new) and staging.

Wicked Window Cards?  Feb 10 2024, 06:49:02 PM

I saw that, and thank you for the link. I have that version, I was hoping for one of the newer ones (especially the 20th anniversary one)

Wicked Window Cards?  Feb 10 2024, 06:28:36 PM

I’m seeing the tour next Sunday and I was wondering if they’re still selling window cards? The wicked merch website doesn’t have one listed currently, nor does playbill.

COMPANY Revival On Tour - News & Discussion Thread  Oct 29 2023, 04:22:31 PM

Caught the show this past Friday. The cast seemed uniformly strong with Matt Rodin’s Jamie being a standout. I found Britney Coleman to be an excellent Bobbie, although her “Being Alive” was a little less visceral than I’d prefer. It’s a hell of a good time even if you, like me, are not the biggest fan of the show’s book.

COMPANY Revival On Tour - News & Discussion Thread  Oct 19 2023, 10:26:29 PM

I’m seeing this next Friday here in Detroit. In what I think is a rarity the tour has its own unique windowcard, as opposed to using the Broadway one.

Jordan Fisher will be the new Orpheus in HADESTOWN  Oct 9 2023, 03:59:08 PM

If I recall correctly, didn’t Fisher have difficulty with the high notes in Dear Evan Hansen? Orpheus is written much higher…

New Hadestown Casting  Oct 3 2023, 05:12:59 PM

I’m hoping Michael Wartella gets to play Orpheus

Chicago The Musical Appreciation Thread  Sep 19 2023, 10:50:58 AM

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Give Amber Ardolino a shot as Velma.

re: Musicals that are NOT based off of Movies, books, or plays/oprah  Sep 15 2023, 11:57:04 AM

Something Rotten, although it features Shakespeare the plot is original.

Changes to Six School addition  Aug 23 2023, 10:34:07 PM

*Edition

my guess is that there’s lyric changes to remove some of the innuendo lines;

“…Henry’s little— Prick up your ears…” and         “I guess he really liked my head” come to mind.

probably some key changes too.

SPAMALOT To Play The St James This Fall  Aug 9 2023, 04:25:49 PM

Well it is a transfer of that production…

COMPANY Revival On Tour - News & Discussion Thread  Aug 8 2023, 02:15:05 PM

I think that Susan Egan would be an inspired choice for Joanne. She’s the right age (she’s actually older than Stritch was in the original), And she’s got the right acerbic bite to her.

COMPANY Revival On Tour - News & Discussion Thread  Aug 5 2023, 10:50:44 PM

Here in Detroit tickets are going for $145 in the orchestra for this. Comparatively I caught the Lion King and Beetlejuice for under $70 (58 and 68 respectively)

The Lion King tour 2023  Jul 31 2023, 07:25:31 PM

That is correct.

The Lion King tour 2023  Jul 30 2023, 06:53:38 PM

I caught the tour in Detroit last year. I haven’t seen the show on Broadway, but I will say I was underwhelmed by some of the scenic elements, specifically pride rock, which looked about 7 feet tall. Also both Nala and Sarabi sounded like Minnie Mouse when they sang, which really makes some of the songs lose impact.

Typically it’s on TKTS for 50% off

Musical Performances on the 2023 Tony Awards  May 27 2023, 09:58:00 PM

Based on the fact that there’s already a duplicate set piece built (as appeared on The Voice) I’d lay good odds on Independently Owned being performed.

INTO THE WOODS Tops Broadway.com Audience Choice Award Winners  May 24 2023, 04:39:03 PM

It’s a very strange category. It shouldn’t really be a thing.

William Ivey Long (whom I adore) seems to REALLY be phoning in new designs for the ensemble.  Why change what’s not broken?
