re: Isn't it time we changed the name of a couple more Broadway theatres?
 Aug 17 2004, 11:27:43 PM
Can someone explain to me why the opposition to Corporate Naming rights is so strong. If you are supporting Broadway (which by posting on this board I assume you do)you are supporting comercial theatre. The real art is off-broadway and elsewhere not there. Its all about money on Broadway and naming a theatre after some dead person no matter how well respected does not make much (or any) money. If you have a problem with corperations you shouldn't support big expesive messes like Hairspray, A

I saw this summer's broadway rocks with the NC Smyphony and it was awesome. Terrance himself has not aged gracefully, but he makes up for it with such a down to earth presence. The other performers included Alice Ripley, Brian D'arcy James, Norm Lewis and a couple others that were outstanding.

Hey thats not too weird a combo. My good friend graduated from East Carolina Universiy with a double majorored in Political Science and Musical Theatre. And now... he works in computers. He still finds time for performing with local theatre companies though.

Its a little big, but its beautiful, the acoustics are great, and there's not a bad seat (they're comfortable too) in the house.

re: Jason Robert Brown

Jason Robert Brown is my favorite current composer. I love the Parade recording (although I can understand why it wasn't a commercial success). I already loved Last Five Years form the recording.....but after I saw the Philadelphia Theatre Company's production it is my new favorite musical. The guy playing Jamie was a much better actor than Butz and the girl who played Cathy was amazing!! What is Jon and Jenn? By Andrew Lippa composer of The Wild Party??

I think it looks awesome! I'll admit Frank Wildhorn is no Sondheim but Jekyll & Hyde was an entertaining guilty pleasure and Scarlet Pimpernell was actually qutie good and better than most musicals since. Dracula is a great story and with the talent involved in this production I'm shocked there is not more excitement.

I'm a huge fan of JRB, have been ever since my friend came back from nyc raving about a new show called Parade. When the OCR for Parade came out I was hooked. I can totally understand why it was not a comercial success though and I don't think it will ever be a stable of regienal theatre. Last Five Years on the other hand will have a long life through regional, community, and college productions. I saw it in Philidelphia an
