Jewish High Holy Days and Broadway  Nov 11 2012, 11:00:31 AM
This is a subject that I have a lot of personal interest in. The most notable example of a star having Jewish holidays written into their contract was Dudu Fisher, an Israeli cantor who played Jean Valjean on Broadway and the West End. Being a Shabbat-observant Orthodox Jew, he had an understudy for all Friday night, Saturday and Jewish Holiday performances. As an Orthodox teenager who had an interest in performing, this always gave me a bit of hope....and sure enough for almost three years I wa
Your Favorite Amateur/Non-Broadway Composers??  Oct 29 2012, 10:59:01 AM
I'd love to make a case for some awesome Canadian writers whose work might be lesser known internationally. While several Canadian shows have made it to the Great White Way (Anne of Green Gables, Drowsy Chaperone, Story of My Life), the majority remains our little secret.

I recomend looking into the work of:
Paul Sportelli and Jay Turvey (Little Mercy's First Murder, Tristan, Maria Severa): http://www.jaypaulproject.com

Jonathan Monro (Variations on a Nervous Breakdown): http://www.jonathanmonro.com

Zachary Florence (The Passion of Hugo Adele, Experimental Selves): http://zacharyflorence.com/

And if I can be so self indulgent as to shill myself and my writing partner, you can check out our website: http://www.colleenandakiva.com and our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/TheCollabos

My sheet music now for sale!  Feb 22 2011, 08:10:07 PM
Hey guys,

Just a quick shill here. Sheet music for the songs I co-wrote are finally available for purchase. Over the past few years I've had a few people on the BWW contact me asking me about buying sheet music for songs I wrote that I've uploaded to YouTube or our website.

My awesome composing partner Colleen has been plugging away getting those ready for sale, and creating a kick-ass store for our website. We tried to pick some songs that would be good for auditions, cabarets, concerts and masterclasses. Check them out on our website and pass on the good word to any performer friends that are looking for new material!

Check it out at: http://www.thecollabos.com

Thanks so much!

Rest in Peace, Theoni Aldredge  Jan 21 2011, 01:38:01 PM
I genuinely believe she influenced the fabric (no pun intended) of the American musical more than she'll ever get credit for. She will be missed, but her contributions and legacy will live on for a very long time.

I have always thought he would be an awesome Freddy in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Jersey Boys Toronto will close Aug. 22  Jul 3 2010, 10:01:38 PM
I am particularly saddened by this news because I had some friends in final callbacks to take over for some lead roles if the run was extended till January. Sadly I won't get to see them in those roles now.

Best of luck to the talented cast...can't wait to see them all in other shows.

IF Jenn Damiano leaves n2n.....  May 25 2010, 08:44:47 PM
There is a performer here in Toronto that is eerily perfect for that role, named Sara Farb. I dare you to watch this video and not hear Natalie singing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y1vteedhj4

Glee Video Auditions  Apr 18 2010, 06:17:15 PM
My friend Jeigh made an amazing video. The audio is live in this video (as in...he is not lipsynching to a prior recording of himself):

RIP Lindsay Thomas  Feb 5 2010, 04:41:33 PM
Its been a rough week for the Toronto theatre community. While I didn't know her very well, I have seen her a few times in shows around town and share many mutual friends who spoke very highly of her. Thoughts are with her friends and family.

Here's a video of her from way back in the day, which I thought was quite moving: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqYrWkxZY2A

re: Choreographer of the year: Sergio Trujillo?  Dec 28 2009, 07:39:29 PM
West Side Story at Stratford was superb, but I don't know how well a transfer of any sort would translate. The use of the thrust stage was really a huge a part of the magic, and how everyone dealt with that.

re: Tina Maddigan new CD out!!  Dec 7 2009, 11:50:14 PM
No Way! her album is titled after a track she recorded from a show called Variations on a Nervous Breakdown...of which I was the Set and Costume Designer for the original production. I love that song. Go Canada!
