They certainly could’ve just had Coalhouse roll in with a new car and say he bought it, but the innovation of mass production as a means to deliver goods like that to the middle class is a major part of the era and signal of progress. Having a production number with Ford is a fun way to

I wonder if the little boy's clairvoyance (he also senses that Tateh will soon be important to his family) is one of those things that had a bigger role in early drafts of the show, but mostly got cut so t

THANK YOU for this. I absolutely agree. The historical characters are critical to the plot -- just like in the original book by Doctorow. The arc of the story is so very much based on 'the possibility' of change. Goldman leads a revolution -- but winds up being deported to Russia. Houdini is the symbol of possible escape, and yet he doesnt understand (until too late) what Edgar is telling him - he admits that. Nesbit is the star her mot

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with Nathan Lane (1996) Dec 13
2025, 05:40:33 PM
I saw it. And yes, it was truly terrific.
Two things I remember -- both of which 'might' seem peculiar now.
First -- in those days, Lane was very much 'the second coming' of Zero Mostel, and so it was no surprise when the revical and cast was announced. And yes -- he definitely played to that. A lot of Mostel and a lot of Lane is a very winning combination. As in 'The Producers.' (Of course, since

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 12/7/25 Dec 11

I WOULD do it -- if I had the knowledge and the insight and ability to sort all of it out.
I dont -- so I was hoping that someone -- who does have the information -- would consider doing it.
I wouldnt know where to begin.....

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 12/7/25 Dec 10
2025, 07:17:08 PM
I have a request:
Would someone be willing to start a (updating) thread that lists the current shows that have recouped, or are thought to have recouped. I religiously follow the Grosses every week, and it would be very helpful to have some additional information about what is 'entitled' to be called a HIT. (It seems that question is always coming up as to whether this one or that one is 'really' a flop.... I'm good with the definition

Choosing a show for an upcoming NY visit Nov 9

Today I would say RAGTIME.
But I would wait until the reviews come out on TWO STRANGERS -- since its only a few days from now -- and see if your fav reviewer(s) have as advice for that show.

Just in Time Seating Question Nov 3
2025, 04:28:24 PM
Planning on taking my wife, who is very petite, to see this and would like her to have a great seat. I've seen the show and sat in C241 -- all the way towards the 'main' stage and could see everything, so I know there is no bad seat in the place.
I mentioned the 'table seating' to her -- and she said that she wasnt sure she wanted to getting 'rained on' from Groff -- but was wondering about the two rows of 'floor' seating as a possibility.

Oh MY -- there are a bunch of fabulous restaurants a few steps from Lincoln Center. We live part of the year across the street from Juilliard, and find the food in the neighborhood one of my favorite reasons for being there.&

Broadway Costs Oct 1

Why oh why cant we have ANY conversation without someone immediately insulting someone else?
Please -- ask yourself -- if you were in a group and someone said what the OP said -- would you say to his/her face what you wrote? I dont think so (or at least, I hope not, and want to give the benefit of the doubt.
This is a very interesting topic to so many of us -- it's constantly being discussed as to how much it costs to 'put on a show' and whether a s

Is it me, or does it seem like Did They Like It is really 'upgrading' reviews -- not just this time, but recently? I didnt read all of the reviews, (I canot access some of them), but those I read didnt seem nearly as 'thumbs up' as they claim. (And this was even much worse for Art and Jeff Ross.
Am I being too harsh?

Broadway Grosses delayed until Thursday? Sep 26

Can we PLEASE discuss the grosses and not national politics? Or what you think of other posters' mental health?
It's hard enough to read the news without (it seems) every thread quickly become some combination of personal attack and/or national politics scree (on both sides).
How about we agree that threads that wish to make political points, or contain personal attacks be labeled -- sort of like -- "BROADWAY GROSSES -- personal attacks thread&qu

London Calling? Sep 21
2025, 05:51:50 PM
Hi
After more than a few years away, we are planning to visit London this November (2025 -- sorry)). Would be very interested in your recommendations for the West End -- just as I start -- we have seen all of the 'usual suspects' in either NYC or London -- and would be most interested in 'something new.' THANKS in advance for any thoughts.

4 Shows/3 Days Aug 11
2025, 06:33:13 PM
A BIG thumbs up to the Blacklisted exhibit at the Historical Society. I usually have a short attention span in museums -- but I read every panel and watched every video. Such a fabulous expose of a terrible time in America. And, of course, it so very much resembles what we are living through now. So many reasons to be hopeful for the future. So many reasons to be fearful. Go see it.
A YES, the Frick is spectacular -- although I h

Refunds for “over the title” stars’ absences Apr 12

When the star is listed above the title of the show, they are telling you they view the star is more important IMO than the show so damn right you should ask for refund in that case."
Ive been coming from out of town for decades to see Broadway. And yes, I try to pick the shows and the performers I most want to see -- and this time of year, I also want to see the performers who are/will be nominated.

This is getting CRAZY. Ive heard the producers think it's a good idea so that they can have a 'quiet' evening, but it is a definite buzz killer for folks like me. I'm old and old fashioned, but I actually have looked forward to 10 PM on opening night to see what the critics think.
