Can someone clarify as to what the specific type of humor is?   (ie, Gentleman's Guide, 39 Steps, Book of Mormon, Monty Pythonesque British Humor?)

Viciously Funny Reviews

Not a play or musical, but when Andy Worhol's film "Bike Bos" started showing at the Hudson Theatre, the NYT's Howard Thompson noted "[Bike Boy] opened yesterday at the Hudson Theater. It belongs in the Hudson River."

Ouch.

Maybe I'm misinterpting, but I always saw the line at the end of "If You Could See Her" as noting things were so twisted in Germany at that point if a person were dating a Jewish Gorilla, people would be more scandalized by the fact she's Jewish than the fact the person is dating a Gorilla.

I come to Broadway 2-3X a year from Delaware.  Just under two hours by train.  I wouldn't want to deal with driving the NJ Turnpike, much less Manhattan. I'm sure other people use Amtrak (or one of the local transit systems if the live close enough).  I personally take the subway over to the Theatre District and feel safe doing so, though I keep my distance from the platform until the subway comes in.  FWIW I am a 57 year old male, about 6' 180 lbs.

With the renovations and everything done to the Majestic (which unless I've missed it, haven't really heard anyone comment on them...) I'm really surprised to see this.

I (probably like most here) had only been in the Majestic previously for Phantom, so its difficult to compare.  The theatre definitely looks gorgeous.  The men's room, at least was spacious and appeared new (I saw Phantom soon after the post-C

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 10/13/24
 Oct 16 2024, 01:01:27 PM

I haven't seen this production but out of curiosity:

How does the scope/likely cost of the renovations for Broadway and London compare? From the seating charts it look like the Broadway renovation was more signifigant  (I'm aware the West End and Broadway economic models are different).  I've never been to the West End at all and haven't been in the August Wilson since it was the pre-renovation Virginia (the "high school auditorium&quo

From reading the Wiki synopsis of "Letter from an Unknown Woman", it fits the clues AND the plot see

Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season!

A question regarding speculation about casting the "older" June.  It's been a while since I saw the show, but isn't she only in the show for the second half or so of Act I?   Does she return at any point after she runs off with Tulsa?   (I'll assume spoiler warnings aren't needed on a 60+ year old show).  Assuming my memory is correct, there doesn't seem much point in spending money to get a "name" to play the role, and mor

He was in the “Honey Bun” number in South Pacific (which also fits the “drag” clue that was going around earlier).

Could one of the actors currently be involved in something else and the Gypsy announcement can't be made until either the person in question announces their departure or the other show announces closing?

He does qualify as a Tony winner (for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Catch Me If You Can) who has done drag (in Is He Dead?). I think he's a great choice for Herbie.

Is Danny Burstein doing anything?  He's won a Tony and would have appeared "in drag" for the "Honey Bun" sequence in South Pacific.

2024 Tony Predictions

A question/thought about Illinoise winning best musical

I remember in past years' (post-nomination) predictions as to who/what would win various award, it was noted Tony voters sometimes take the"business of Broadway" into consideration- in other words, they may (consciously or not) be more likely to vote for a result which they perceive will result in better overall grosses.

If that's the case, would voters want to award "bes

Disney Opening a new show at the New Amsterdam this September?

The "for the opening of one of our shows" language seems odd.  The New Amsterdam is going to have one show at a time.  However, the language makes more sense if Disney Theatricals is
