Julie's FANNY DATES: Friday April 29 - Sunday May 1 and Friday August 26 - Sunday August 28
Traveling to NYC in August to see her. After hearing the other option, I decided that I'd rather see someone else. I'm hopeful that Julie is great!
"The other option". I am howling. Thank you for that.
That is MY Funny Girl and I cannot wait to see her April 29th!!
Julie Benko deserves her own poster.
Definitely intending to see her. Kinda feel that a star will be born. I hope the NY press makes it a point to catch her. The New York Times did this when LuPone was in EVITA and they reviewed Terri Klausner, the matinee Eva Peron and raved.
Saw her in Once at my hometown regional theatre last summer - she was fantastic!

She’s been fabulous since she covered Christy Altomare on the Spring Awakening 1st national. Such a versatile performer.
Just booked a seat for the Sunday May 1 matinee using the discount code: People
Really looking forward to seeing Julie as Fanny as we don't see Beanie until late May
Will Julie be the Greater Star of this production other than Jared Grimes?
Will Julie be the Greater Star of this production other than Jared Grimes?
Jared is featured in the show. He’s given several moments to showcase his tap dancing. The other times he’s on stage is to react and that’s it. Anyone blowing him up as more needs to revisit the show and let those early preview excitement clear their memories.

Happy to be proven wrong but I doubt they'd cast the second coming of Barbra. It doesn't seem to be Mayer's vision for this part and there's no incentive to set up a hugely unfavorable comparison. Sheridan Smith, Tammy Blanchard... Rumors about Beanie's casting aside, he seems willing to buck conventional wisdom with his musical revivals.
It will be interesting to hear if Julie plays the role differently given (presumably) similar direction.
She's Beanie's cover. She'll play it like Beanie. Much like Simard covering LuPone is Simard playing LuPone playing Joanne. That's the gig.
Do you think she will be reviewed over the weekend performances as Fanny?
Professionally reviewed? No. On this board? Of course.
She's not Donna Murphy going into Hello Dolly. She's the cover coving an absence.
Was Terri Klausner ever really a star? Not to be (too) mean, but I’ve only heard of her as the Eva alternate, not any other role.
Much love to Julie. As much as everyone on this board has a right to their opinion about the performance of the original lead, I hope there’s no tension or awkwardness amongst the cast because of the comparisons.
Since Ramin is out of the show for 10 days as he calls it ''Rona'' I wonder who will be Fanny's Nick Arnstein for the weekend? Who played Nick tonight-Thursday with Beanie?
