OH, MARY! Reviews Sep 19 2024, 07:40:07 AM
Saw this last night. I howled several times. Brilliantly absurd. Martin Landry was on for Conrad, so I was a little bummed not to see Conrad. Landry was fantastic. I imagine Conrad is even more campy and flamboyant in moments. Also think John Mulaney could be an interesting choice for Mary.

You know Spelling Bee is one I've surprisingly never seen. Would you see it over Chess?

We are in NYC quite a bit so we've seen a lot of what's on Broadway already. All the Disney shows, Wicked, Book of Mormon, Outsiders, Mamma Mia, Beetlejuice, & Juliet, Chicago, Death Becomes Her, Great Gatsby, Hamilton, Hadestown, Oh Mary.
We are with my partner's family and saw Moulin Rouge last night and are seeing Ragtime tonight (literally my favorite Broadway score and have seen 10x but not this cast). We are seeing Maybe Happy Ending tomorrow for matinee and need

Jennifer Lopez to Star in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN Film Oct 10 2025, 06:43:03 PM
For me, the film works best in the moments between Tonatiuh and Diego Luna. While the dreamier musical numbers remind me a bit of Chicago and the other sequences feel like classic movie musicals, Jennifer Lopez as Aurora feels miscast. She looks stunning, but her acting feels hollow next to Molina and Valentin, leaving Aurora underwhelming in a story that needed her to shine. Honestly, she is fine, but a better actress would have made this film great.

Is the general context of Dressing them Up lost or is it just the song that was cut? I think it's important in the storytelling of Molina.

Adam Guettel & Bob Martin's MILLIONS will premiere at Alliance Theatre in Spring 2025, directed by Bartlett Sher May 30 2025, 07:27:29 AM
I saw this last night, and I’m honestly baffled by how bad it really is. If this is being considered for a Broadway transfer, it’s nowhere near ready. It's one of the weakest productions I’ve seen in a very long time.
The show aims to tell a cohesive story, but it often feels more like a series of disconnected vignettes. It’s hard to stay emotionally invested when the narrative lacks flow and clarity. I’ve seen comm

Join us for a special preview event for Millions – a heartwarming new musical about two brothers, their newly widowed father, a train robber, and (possibly) a miracle, inspired by Frank Cottrell Boyce’s beloved novel and film. Featuring a discussion between Artistic Director Christopher Moses and creative team Adam Guettel, Bob Martin, and Bartlett Sher, plus a snea

For the record, I LOVED the movie. As a fan of the technical aspects of film, I wanted more.

I wish they could fix the lighting. I have no idea why you’d shoot “The Wizard and I” in flat, whitelighting. Imagine if that song had been shot while the sun was going down at Shiz, with a sky of purples and oranges and pinks? Instead she runs out into a washed out field of bone dry hay and an overcast sky. Missed opportunity."
Imagine how we

So many fell just short (The Color Purple, West Side Story, Les Mis, Hairspray). And there's been plenty of flops(Rent, Jersey Boys, Dear Evan Hansen, In The Heights, Footloose, Rock of Ages, Phantom, The Producers)."

Defying Gravity was impeccably filmed, I applaud them for that. Going back to being a teenager in 2008 baulking at how it'd come off on film as not

The lighting is a recurring issue, with key moments suffering from poor execution. For example, in "The Wizard and I," Elphaba's scene in the gazebo feels awkwardly and poorlylit as if the chimes themselves were supposed to light her?"
Maybe this doesn't change your opinion, but the stained glass chimes were there to degreenify her by canceling out her green wi

Saw this again last night for the second time and it was an even better experience, likely because I knew what to expect with some of the elongated numbers. "Dancing Through Life" and "Defying Gravity" particularly stood out as highlights this time when I thought they were the parts of the film that stalled the most on first viewing. Knowing I was going to be sitting through a 21-minute sequence in DTL made it better this time around. And yes, I clocked it.

Would actually love to see him direct a Wizard of Oz that's true to the original book with the cast of Wicked continuing on.
Others: Hadestown, Next to Normal, Follies
