We are in NYC quite a bit so we've seen a lot of what's on Broadway already. All the Disney shows, Wicked, Book of Mormon, Outsiders, Mamma Mia, Beetlejuice, & Juliet, Chicago, Death Becomes Her, Great Gatsby, Hamilton, Hadestown, Oh Mary.
We are with my partner's family and saw Moulin Rouge last night and are seeing Ragtime tonight (literally my favorite Broadway score and have seen 10x but not this cast). We are seeing Maybe Happy Ending tomorrow for matinee and need a rec for the evening show.
I really love the music of Chess but have read so many polarizing things that I'm skeptical about it.
The shows we are trying to decide between that we haven't seen: Chess, Operation Mincemeat, Just in Time, Two Strangers Carry a Cake. Any thoughts between these? We would usually see some plays and I wanted to see Little Bear Ridge Road but our family would not like it.

I had a decision to make last month while there. I was going to skip CHESS but decided to see it because I love the music and may possibly never see another revival. That's the show I would suggest if you like the music/score. I am glad I went even though there were a few things about the production I wasn't crazy about.

If you like the music of Chess you're not going to hear it sung any better. Ignore the ridiculousness of the book.
Spelling Bee off-Broadway is one of the best shows in town.

You know Spelling Bee is one I've surprisingly never seen. Would you see it over Chess?

That a tough decision! Spelling Bee is so good. I would say if you are looking for something lighter, go for Spelling Bee. CHESS has a tinge of politics so if you want to stay away from that with the parents, Spelling Bee should be perfect.

I would consider Two Strangers. It's a delightful show.

Not directly but the Narrator makes a number of political quips. I didn't find them offensive and laughed at a few.

Just in Time -- definitely. A great way to cap off your visit -- go out on a high (and happy) note.

Exactly. It's all in good fun - nothing more.

Here is how I would rate what I saw in November
1)Chess
2)Ragtime
3)Maybe Happy Ending
4)Just in Time
5)Two Strangers
6)Operation Mincemeat
But I would see Operation Mincemeat again because it all goes by so quickly in thick British accents that so much gets missed the first time
