Now that we have a director, I wanted to share this tweet that a friend forwarded me. Just to get some initial thoughts and opinions.

Jon M. Chu’s #Wicked (working title: Western Sky) looks to begin filming this October/November in Los Angeles and Atlanta. Just a rumor for now but also hearing they do want a person of color for the lead role and Umbrella Academy actress Emmy Raver-Lampman might be in the running for the lead role #Wicked
Emmy played the role of Elphaba on the national tour of Wicked not too long ago.

I want Ariana Debose for Elphaba! Been wanting this movie since 2007

Brittney Johnson for Glinda!
Gaga is the only one who could do it right.
Beetlejuice will reopen The Palace and hell will freeze over before the Universal overlords allow this to be called "Western Sky."

Ashley Park as Elphaba and Amanda Seyfried as Galinda please

Get a grip. Many, if not most, films use a working title during filming.

I'm starting to think this movie might actually happen now after all. Love Emmy for the part but Ariana DeBose is also who I'd like to see.

You don’t know how this works, do you
Wow, I must be living under a damn rock. While I loved Umbrella Academy, I had NO idea Emmy Raver-Lampman was a theatre actress (Hamilton/Wicked/Aida at the Pittsburg CLO, etc). I’m very here for this dream casting!

Ashley Park is much more of a Glinda and would be a good counterpart to Emmy.

Why anyone would give a working title to a project, a very famous project that already has a title known the world over makes absolutely no damn sense.
I present to you...literally every Marvel property as evidence
Courting subtle publicity. Wicked is not the latest installment in a plot-and-spoiler-heavy franchise; it’s a mostly-beloved musical whose production has been long-postponed. They want you to know “ooh, they’re working on something SPECIAL.”
For me it's a toss-up between Ariana Debose or Emmy Raver-Lampman as Elphaba alongside Ashley Park or Amanda Seyfried as Glinda. Honestly any of them could be great in these roles, plus I'm very glad that we ended up with Jon Chu as the director considering how visually stunning and creative In The Heights looks. Stephen Daldry would've made it more "realistic" and kind of boring in his hands.

Nope. Not even close. Not the same thing.
For the love of god, it isn’t a working title. It’s meant to detract attention. And...the source is a random Twitter account. So yep, same thing!
Only original projects have “working titles”. Major projects use the intended title from pre-production on. It has always been this way. Even 1939’s GONE WITH THE WIND was using this on their pre-production notes as it was already a known project from the get-go. Universal has been using the WICKED on every announcement press release for the film adaptation. Not now, not later will they ever be using WESTERN SKIES.

GET OVER YOURSELF.
Never gonna happen, but I’d like to throw Ciara Renees name out into the ring. If not the film, I’d love for her to be the elphaba when wicked on Broadway eventually reopens.

Oy! Met her at a recent dinner gathering. Girl needs to keep her trap shut. One bitter exhausting energy, let it be known. So disappointing on many levels.

Amanda Seyfried was the worst part of Les Mis for me. I know that she has been taking voice lessons and supposedly improved, but why take that bet if we're fantasy casting?
Ashley Park would be great.

I put this in the other forums that Stephen Schwartz was interviewed in Atlanta recently and he mentioned that they will begin filming in the fall, in the city of Atlanta. He also mentioned that production will go into 2022.
Hollywood has used different names for films they do not want people to know about..Yes they have said Wicked to the public but they could be using " Western Sky" to cover it up where they are filming in Atlanta. Who knows...only they production team knows...If I would guess we might hear something in the summer who is cast in the movie musical.
