Newintown, based on your list and your rules for forming an opinion, numbers 1-3 should inspire a great deal of positivity for this project, as Spider-Man is one of the most popular, successful comics in America; Julie Taymor is one of the country's (and the world's) most innovative and exciting visionary directors; and U2 is one of the world's bestselling music groups (and has been for over 20 years).

What is with all of this bile directed at Taymor? She is one of the hardest-working, innovative directors in the world. I would give anything to sit in on one of her rehearsals. I'm not sure what's going to come of this Spider-Man musical, but her reputation is based on solid, beautiful work with a clear sense of vision.

DC's ability to use the names for their own comics and their ability to license the property to other media are two completely different legal issues.

The biggest issue with the performance was the sound levels. It was like no one told the sound guy that there was a hip hop part of the song in the middle that had nothing to do with the lyrical part from the beginning. Which of course featured THE GUY WHO WROTE THE SHOW and tells the story of the song. Because we couldn't hear Lin-Manuel or any of the others, the song seemed worthless.

What is not being considered here is that this would not simply be a direct transfer to NY for the fall. It's not like this show is just going to pick up and move to some empty theatre on Broadway. There is still much work to be done on the new book and songs before it's ready for Broadway, at the admission of the current production team (and the majority of the critics). Fine, guys. I was wrong. This is a brilliant piece of theatre, probably the best musical ever written. I hope it plays in NYC with the current cast and script intact. And when it does, I can't wait to hear what Brantley, Isherwood, and Feingold think of it.

And the worst thing that I did in this discourse was to provide an alternate, LOCAL viewpoint to many of the questions that were being raised about the show and its future. And everything that I have claimed was backed up by verified news sources.

A few corrections. Did I only post bad reviews? No. I posted ALL of the reviews that have been printed, with the exception of the Dallas Observer one, and that was because someone else beat me to the punch. I must have missed the official announcement that they have been given permission to pursue transferring the show. Could you provide a link to it? I do not have any kind of a grudge against the Theater Center. But I do think that they could use their considerable resources to pursue better...

To clarify my previous message, it is my understanding that DC requested that the DTC production refrain from using Lex and other characters not originally licensed for the 1966 musical after a spate of public press events by the theater company in which they described the changes they were planning on making to the script, as well as a story or two published about the changes on Playbill.com. However, in the case of this production, where they wrote the script with Lex Luthor, Toyman, etc., in mind, and then simply changed the names when DC forbade them from using those iconic characters, there is definitely some legal follow-up that would need to be done by DC's reps, I would expect.
