So I tuned in to the results show of so you think you can dance tonight to see who got kicked off and was excited to see that the cast of in the heights would be performing. Boy was I disappointed! I saw the OBC 2 years ago, and I saw the tour in February, but aside from that I'm not really keeping track of whos touring or in the show in New York. I was happy to see Lin again, but oh lordie not a fan of whoever was playing Vanessa. She's not who I saw on tour, however it was the same Benny from the tour. The whole performance was pretty...lack luster.
Anyone else see it tonight?
i was really disappointed in the performance. it just wasn't exciting. if i hadn't already seen in the heights, this performance certainly wouldn't have persuaded me to do so. Plus, they cut almost half the song. And the people playing vanessa and benny were a big letdown for me.
It wasn't really exciting, and it didn't have as much energy as when they did the whole version on Lopez. I kinda of disagree about Lexi Lawson. She started this tuesday, and to me, she sounds amazing! I like her. Rogelio keeps finding places to add riffs to his belts!
I thought it was a hot mess and did nothing to promote the show at all.
(Why were they described as the OBC?)
I thought the clip from their appearance on The George Lopez Show was much better.

That song out of context, just doesn't play well, plus it was cut, which didn't help. A very lack luster performance.

96,000, but only part of it. I didn't think Lexi Lawson sounded good at all, but I liked her in Rent a lot and think she'll make a good Vanessa.
I think Lexi did great, I never get tired of her voice. But I think that the way the chopped up the song made it seem sloppy. I definately enjoyed them more on George Lopez.

I saw the tour with Lexi last night, and Lexi was fantastic. The whole touring cast is great, and it was my second time. Rogelio plays a great Benny. I think the show is just absolutely great to tell you the truth. I did not see dancing with the stars so I cant tell you. but every single cast member tries there hardest and succeeds.
I listened to some youtube vids of Lexi and I still don't really like her to be honest.

Lexi's voice is very clear. I like her now.
I hate how the song is starting at her part though. I never would have guessed what the show or song was about if I saw this performance without any previous knowledge of it.
No matter where this song starts no one would be able to guess the plot line with Nina as she is no where to be seen. She is defiantly the main female character. But this performance is obviously to show off the choreography.
there was choreography? I love this show and don't think this was the best number for a televised audience. was a nice idea to showcase the singing instead of the dancing but, why this song?

Souldn't they have done the club scene if they wanted to fully show off the choreography?
all in all it seems to be about filling up the hour for SYTYCD. also, it was just poorly thought out on the part of in the heights. Putting that number on chopped up in that way did nothing to productively promote the show except for maybe the LA production.
"there was choreography?"
Yes.
Well the club scene is very long and shows very little character or singing.
Obviously you guys know more about how to promote a musical in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Shame you're not the ones who staged this performance.
Give me a break.
All I'm saying is that it was lacking. A lot.
...and all i'm saying is i was bored and didn't get the gist of the show. nor, did i understand a word they were saying.

The biggest issue with the performance was the sound levels. It was like no one told the sound guy that there was a hip hop part of the song in the middle that had nothing to do with the lyrical part from the beginning. Which of course featured THE GUY WHO WROTE THE SHOW and tells the story of the song. Because we couldn't hear Lin-Manuel or any of the others, the song seemed worthless.
When I opened the thread I thought it was "in the heights OR SYTYCD"...thought you were going to be asking whether you should go see In the Heights or stay home and watch So You Think You Can Dance.
