Fade in on a girl, with a hunger for fame…
The bombshell is about to drop! The new musical Smash plays to its very first paid audience tomorrow night (March 11). Based on the cult NBC series of the same name, the backstage farce boasts several seasoned Broadway veterans in its cast, including Robyn Hurder, Brooks Ashmanskas, Krysta Rodriguez (who featured in the series’ second season), John Behlmann, Kristine Nielsen, Caroline Bowman, Bella Coppola, Jacqueline B. Arnold, Casey Garvin, and newcomer Nicholas Matos. The score features songs from the series — plus some new material — by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, with a book by Bob Martin and Rick Elice, choreography by Joshua Bergasse, and direction by Susan Stroman. Smash officially opens on April 10.
“Inspired by the hit TV series, Smash is the ultimate musical-lover’s musical. Get ready for all the backstage pandemonium as opening night approaches for Bombshell, the splashy new show about Marilyn Monroe. Nearly breaking under the pressure, legendary Broadway star Ivy Lynn causes a series of hilarious setbacks and surprises that brings a diva director, a bewildered producer, two exasperated authors, one eager understudy, and an entire company to its knees. But the curtain’s going up, no matter what!”
Who’s ready to spill all the backstage tea?!
ready for this one and very curious!! I'll be seeing it this Saturday.

Doubt anybody is worried about the music which is from Season One of the TV show. Cast has Broadway veterans which includes Krysta Rodriguez who was in TV show so that should be fine. Only question is how they changed the storyline and will it work. If you liked the TV show, will you like the changes? I will be looking forward to hearing reports.
I think the show will throw many on a loop who are expecting this to be a faithful adaptation. I think it’ll be giving DEATH BECOMES HER some competition as the next campy fun-fest musical. We’ll soon see but I feel this is going the XANADU route and being playful with all the ridiculousness the TV show was attacked for.
