I remember seeing in 2021 or 2022 some social media posts about a theater company that did a production of Annie with a small cast of only adults. It looked really interesting, but now that I’m trying to find it on google and social media, nothing is coming up.
Anyone else remember this? There were some behind the scenes videos and the actors were doubling in the roles (and actor who played Warbucks also played one of the orphans) - very interesting concept.
Any help on the specifics of this company? Thanks!
Your kindness and thoughtful support do not go unnoticed.
I truly did spend about 45 mins searching on Google, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Reddit, to no avail. Posting on a public message board was my last resort, not my first.
But you found the company with ease! How trouble-free it must be for you to make your way through life!
All in all, thanks for posting the link. Here’s one for your consideration too!
This got me thinking about a theater company in Boston or Rhode Island (I think) that did a much darker version of Annie. At the end of the show Annie wakes up back in the orphanage (same scene as the beginning) and it was all just a dream. It was WILD! They were sent a cease and desist after only a few performances.
The Kirsten Bell lead show ENCORE featured an adult only cast of Annie which was certainly interesting. I’ve always wanted to see a theatre group that cast in spite of age.

Trinity Rep in Rhode Island. Interestingly, featuring a younger Miriam Silverman, who was pursuing her MFA at Brown at the time. (Side note: I saw her two seasons later in their production of Suddenly, Last Summer, and that performance is burned in my mind. Exceptional.)
I saw this production! Well-directed. There are many companies in South Florida/Florida region that find creative and interesting ways to minimize cast sizes while still telling the story. It felt standard in the sense that I'd already seen this done with Shrek and Pippin. All being ensemble based, the doubling just born out of that. Warbucks certainly did more than just play an orphan and Warbucks; he was in Herbert Hoover as well as ensemble roles in the group numbers.

If helpful, while it looks to be a community/semi-professional group, Theatre 55 in St Paul, Minnesota casts actors aged 50+ in traditionally 'young' shows: https://theatre55.org/.
