Eddie Izzard as Hamlet

Feb 27, 2024 — 10:36:44 PM

I wish Eddie/Suzy the best, but this wasn't great. Izzard is a spectacular comedian, who tends to pull her punches when acting. (I still gave a standing ovation, because it's a bloody one-person Hamlet, but wouldn't sit through it again.)

The Hunt starring Tobias Menzies

Feb 18, 2024 — 8:47:08 PM

I saw it today - fantastic! The entire cast is strong, but Menzies is absolutely magnetic. The pacing is tight - it's 1:40, with no intermission, and the staging was great. I highly, highly recommend it.

Ticket to Streetcar tonight at 7:30pm

May 7, 2016 — 5:13:48 PM

I have been awake since 3am, and no way am I making this performance tonight. It's too late for me to exchange it. I hate for this ticket to go to waste, and none of my friends want it. Anyone want it? The box office says someone else can pick the ticket up, no problem. I'm leaving work at 5:30 and will be on a train soon, so my internet connectivity may get spotty, but first person to respond gets it. I'll PM you my name, and that's all you should need to pick up the ticket.

Fiddler on the Roof rush questions

Mar 14, 2016 — 8:55:47 AM

Has anyone rushed this recently? I have an out of town guest who wants to try and rush next Sunday. Thanks!

Has anyone rushed/got TDF tickets for Hand to God recently?

Sep 28, 2015 — 4:36:53 PM

I have a friend who's visiting from out of town in mid-October, and I want to get the best possible seats - preferably in the orchestra, because I'm two hairs away from Helen Keller. Rush tickets are $27, my TDF membership gets me $45 seats. Has anyone here used their TDF membership recently, or rushed this play? Thanks!

ZORBA @ CITY CENTER/ENCORES

May 6, 2015 — 11:34:24 PM

*spoiler alert* Was not expecting three characters to croak! I found it weirdly dark, but maybe that's the point, and I went in expecting Hello Dolly, or something. But John Turturro appeared to be having a blast and Zoe Wanamaker is my everything. I sat a few rows behind Ben Brantley and watched everyone else watching Ben Brantley.

Is TDF worth it?

Apr 27, 2015 — 6:35:37 PM

For me, it's definitely been worth it! I've gotten a lot of great orchestra seats (some premium), many fine mezz seats, and only one balcony seat through TDF. I'm a public librarian, and TDF's enabled me to attend the theater waaaay more than I could afford normally.

Team Madonna vs. Team Lin-Manuel

Apr 20, 2015 — 3:29:18 PM

As somebody who's still trying to get into Hamilton via the lottery/cancellation line - Madonna can bite me. Lin-Manuel has been nothing but lovely every time he's passed by the huddled masses yearning to breathe free inside the Newman theater.

The King and I

Apr 13, 2015 — 3:20:00 PM

I saw this show on Saturday, and have been smiling ever since. My boss informed me that if I didn't stop humming the score at the ref desk she was gonna write me up or physically strike me. It was wonderful.

Lena Halls final show.

That's so beautiful! Did anybody record that? I did see where someone posted the end of her last "Long Grift" on Twitter.

Official JCM as Hedwig (2015 Edition) Thread

Apr 6, 2015 — 11:42:27 PM

I'm glad NPH turned lots of new people on to Hedwig. But I want everyone to see JCM: "CRATE!" And I'm so, so lucky to have seen this show seven times. I hope JCM is being filmed for the archives at Lincoln Center. I fear only NPH was.

Official JCM as Hedwig (2015 Edition) Thread

Apr 6, 2015 — 6:42:07 PM

NPH was the first time I'd ever seen Hedwig, any Hedwig. So I thought he was pretty much the second coming of Christ. But when I saw JCM, I couldn't imagine anyone else in the role. He *is* Hedwig, while the others just play Hedwig, at least to me. I was lucky enough to see NPH twice (and get face-humped!) and MCH once. They were both great in the role. NPH was a consummate showman, and MCH was like a really butch Betty Boop. But I've seen JCM four times, and plan to see his last performance ...

Martin Short

Apr 4, 2015 — 10:07:53 AM

I would have been happy for Broderick to play the straight man, but he was so stilted and unnatural it consistently took me out of the play. I was flabbergasted. The woman sitting next to me remarked on it, too. Maybe he was having an off night. On a happier note, if y'all haven't read Martin Short's recent autobiography, do! Or better yet, listen to the audiobook. In it he describes being cast in his first real play - as a predatory gay prison inmate who has to stalk around the stage menacin...

Martin Short

I thought Short was fantastic, and was thrilled to see him live. I couldn't understand Broderick's continued career - he was sooo stilted the night I saw him!
