2011 Tony Award Thread
 Jun 13 2011, 11:09:34 AM
I just want to say that I feel blessed to have seen this show. I woke up inspired by all the work and love that these performers put into it. I feel lucky to get these performances on TV once a year. It brings me closer to the community that I can't wait to be a part of. Congrats to all the nominees and winners.
Viewing the TONYs AFTER the broadcast
 Jun 6 2011, 10:41:09 AM
Does anyone know if there is an option to view the TONYs online after the broadcast? I have to work on Sunday and, unfortunately, no longer have access to a DVR. Is there anyway to view it online or elsewhere, or am I going to have to work out the ole VCR?
Sardi's Portraits Getting Worse and Worse?
 Jun 3 2011, 11:21:32 AM
Remember when the Sardi's portraits used to be CARICATURES? Look at Liza, Lucille Ball and Whoopi in the photos behind them. Why have the portraits suddenly turned into mediocre realism?
Is Brantley Feeling Bitchier than Usual?
 May 26 2011, 08:40:32 PM
I rarely read Brantley's columns anymore because he seems to be so against everyone in the theatre these days - AND, I would rarely defend the man - but I do agree with him on one thing here: I would LOVE to see Lady Gaga come to the Broadway stage. Of course, she would sell tickets like mad, but she's also the kind of celebrity we want to come to the theatre: one who is dedicated to artistry, to people and can evoke emotions through song. Okay, so maybe mame isn't her show, but lets find somet
Hairspray lead suffers stroke on stage
 May 16 2011, 08:55:17 AM
This is so scary to me. One of my personal performing fears is getting ill or incapacitated onstage. I would hate for an audience to see that. Best wishes on a speedy recovery!
Alice Ripley proving a tad elusive
 May 15 2011, 09:45:49 PM
My mother and aunt are at the evening show right now. Bipolar disorder has plagued my family, so I was excited for my relatives to be able to see this groundbreaking portrayal of what it's really like. No idea about the matinee today, but Ripley is out this evening. On the plus side, this is the text I received:

"At intermission. Diana - Pearl Sun - is incredible. Chillingly real. Incredible voice."

At least Pearl is doing a good job :)

Free Streaming of Book of Mormon Cast Album

Does anyone else think that Sal Tlay Ka Siti sounds JUST like another Musical Theatre song? I can't put my finger on it.

LOVE the album, also.

As for the TONY's, I think Hello will be incorporated into the opening, and I'm gonna go on a limb and say it will be a medley performance: Hasa Diga Eebowi (abridged) and Latter Days.

NYTimes - Porgy and Bess to Broadway?
 May 10 2011, 11:46:21 AM
I feel like Porgy and Bess coming to Broadway would be the ultimate homecoming for the theatre community. Seeing phenomenal actors (who happen to be able to sing the crap out of the brilliant score) will be absolutely thrilling. Audra is stunning in anything, but this seems like it could be a high point in her already long career.
Streisand's 'Gypsy' still on despite Laurents' passing
 May 9 2011, 10:21:57 PM
I'm actually excited at the prospect of my favorite show being preserved as the feature film it deserves to be. My worry isn't Streisand's age - I truly think with a little movie magic (and if she tones up a bit) - they can make that work.

All of the Rose's I have enjoyed have made me forget about the actress they are. I think this film is going to have a little to much "Babs," and not enough "Mama Rose." I'd really like to see an actress like Meryl Streep, who makes me forget she is ac
