It was also difficult to hear the dialogue from the 6th row at the Pinter in London.Have they redesigned the set from London? Or does it still have that plastic construction zone curtain backdrop?I admit to being in the minority on this play. I did not like any of the characters, found each one annoying in his/her own way. The play (in London) did not live up to my expectations. 💤

Front row center should be fine. I sat in second row center. Fantastic to be so close and it’s a terrific show. The stage is not high as it is elsewhere. You should have no trouble unless you are really short. Go for it.

On Tuesday night, December 3, overture started with full house lights on at 8:01pm.Dozens of patrons were still scrambling to their seats at 8:01pm, and most folks around me continued to stare into their iPhones during the overture. There were no usual announcements. That’s no way to treat one of the best Broadway overtures ever written.House lights dimmed to half at the point overture moves into “You’ll Never Get Away From Me.” Curtain fell at 10:57pm.Management needs to advertise that the s...

DEATH BECOMES HER comments/questions

Nov 24, 2024 — 12:18:54 AM

Attended last night (Friday, Nov 22), and thought it was amusing entertainment with powerhouse lead performances and impressive production values. However, I had some difficulty with the sound from my orchestra seat G-1 despite using the listening device. I had the impression they cranked up the reverb for Ms. Williams, which made it hard to understand all of her lyrics and lines. It was impossible to understand what the ensemble was singing during her numbers. The two other female leads often...

So - how did that highly publicized dispute and settlement with the Musicians Union work out for everybody?

British transfers?

Nov 26, 2023 — 11:11:22 PM

I’ve heard that THE MOTIVE AND THE CUE may transfer. OPERATION MINCEMEAT (sophomoric and silly) and CRAZY FOR YOU (dated?) unlikely. If SUNSET BLVD transfers, I hope it does with Nicole. She seems quite essential to its great reviews and success.it would be a gift to have SONDHEIM’S OLD FRIENDS on Broadway.I was told (while attending a performance at its Bridge Theatre) that GUYS AND DOLLS will not transfer. IMHO, there’s nothing special about it aside from the gimmicky immersive staging, and...

September/London theater recommendations requested

I think I saw her in CARRIE on Broadway years ago.thank you for the suggestions.I lucked out finding a good seat for Next to Normal, and have also booked the Twiggy musical and Operation Epsilon (Southwark).I will be booking Rebecca and Little Big Things, along with Guys & Dolls, Crazy for You and Cabaret. I have extended my trip by a day and will make a run up to Birmingham to catch a preview of the new Sinatra musical at the Birmingham Rep starring Matt Doyle, and likely headed to the West ...

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I am aware that Ian McKellan is doing Frank & Percy at The Other Palace. Read the out of town reviews. It seems so predictable. I saw him in Mother Goose in January. Will look into Little Big Things.Any hotel recommendations?

The one man Vanya? Any word on Rebecca? thanks for any help!

HERE LIES LOVE - Broadway Previews

Agree that the view from rear mezzanine (I was in 5th row center of rear mezz) is awful. So far from the stage. Sound is not great all the time either - missed plenty of lyrics. Lea Salonga was in tonight, but the floor standees didn’t get a playbill until after the show and may not have realized it was Lea. There was entrance applause for her, but it was scattered and brief. Someone above wrote they thought the gunshots and bombs were prerecorded. Yes, indeed they were. There were no bombs s...

Musical Theater Heaven!

Mar 28, 2023 — 1:26:29 AM

Saw tonight’s (Monday 3/27) preview. Spectacular perfect second act - brilliant and jubilant. Heavenly and blissful as another poster wrote earlier. Entire show is packed with entertainment. Despite great numbers, music, choreography and production values, Act 1 should be more exciting. The marvelous scaffold tap number takes a while to build and seems extraneous to the story. The umbrella sequence also seems unnecessary. Maybe we need to see Jimmy’s breakdown in Hoboken. Nonetheless, the sce...

THE MUSIC MAN Previews

Dec 22, 2021 — 1:14:55 AM

I thought the ending was fine. Loved all the dance. Wouldn’t cut anything. Has there ever been a leading man in a Broadway show who danced as much and as well as Jackman? The show is joyful entertainment. Audiences will feel well-rewarded for their investment. Hillary Clinton was in the audience tonight, along with her daughter and son-in-law. Seated on aisle in Row H. She took her seat just before the house went dark.

What is

Dec 22, 2021 — 1:05:42 AM

The writers of the show were, IIRC, filling out an application to submit their show to the New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF), which has since ceased operations. They couldn’t figure out a name for their show, so they left the application form blank where it asked for the title of the show. The show actually was produced by NYMF, and later was produced on Broadway where it was well-received but did not find enough patrons to sustain it.
