Here she is, boys. Here she is, world.
AUDRA GYPSY
The landmark Broadway musical about a domineering mother in the early 20th Century who will do anything to make her young daughters Vaudeville stars. Inspired by the life of burlesque entertainer, stripper and actress Gypsy Rose Lee.
Reopening the legengary Majestic Theatre
Previews begin on Thursday November 21
Opening Thursday December 19
There aren’t signs big enough.
There aren’t lights bright enough.
GYPSY is bigger than Broadway—it’s a once-in-a-generation theatrical event. Created by the legendary Arthur Laurents (book), Jule Styne (music), and Stephen Sondheim (lyrics), it is the crown jewel of American musicals. At long last, the greatest musical ever written returns with the most celebrated stage performer of our time.
6-time Tony Award® winner Audra McDonald steps into the mother of all roles alongside Tony Award winner Danny Burstein and rising Broadway stars Joy Woods and Jordan Tyson in this revelatory new production helmed by visionary director, 6-time Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe, and 4-time Tony Award-nominated choreographer Camille A. Brown (Hell’s Kitchen). This GYPSY, unlike any seen before, is Broadway’s ultimate tale of mothers and daughters, ambition and fame, and the lengths we’ll go in pursuit of the American dream. Packed with showstoppers like “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,” and “You Gotta Get a Gimmick,” GYPSY shines as “An immortal work of musical theater” (The New York Times).

This revival marks the first time a trio of Black actresses have played Rose, Louise and June on Broadway. Sing out, Louise!
Who's ready to be entertained starting Thursday?
I’ll be there Thursday night. Can’t wait to see the Majestic post Reno. ❤️
Can't wait for Thursday! It will be my first time in NYC since 2019 :)
I will also be there Thursday night! It’ll be my first time finally seeing a production of Gypsy. I’ve been waiting for the right one and am hoping this is it!

They seem to have opened up some prime orchestra seats for tomorrow if anyone looking for last minute

I opted to see this 2 days before opening instead of seeing it in early previews. I don't know how I'm going to be able to stay away from this page and it's spoilers!

Approximately 50% higher in price for the same row than I paid when they first went on sale.
Someone told me last week that there wasn’t an invited dress. Interested to know if that’s still true.
I truly have no idea what to expect from this production.
Mama Rose in a black slip, covered in blood, while Louise sings "Little Lamb" followed by a camera crew in Times Square.

But who did Mama Rose vote for?
Don’t forget her handing the conductor an iPad with Louise’s music on it. And if you don’t like that and think that makes no sense since the technology didn’t exist back then, than you clearly just aren’t smart enough to understand the directors vision. And when Audra poses with a cardboard cutout of Arthur Laurents while standing next to a human sized Chowsie, people are going to say it’s shameless but it’s the definition of the word “brilliance”.

Don't forget the Cajun seasoning scent they're going to pipe into the theater for that authentic New Orleans flavor.
I'll say it again: if there is a SINGLE reference to New Orleans in this revival I will LAUGH my ass off.
Have a beignet, Mister Goldstone!

Easy enough to find out since the actress who plays her has been very open and made multiple posts about it, not feeling the need to hide, deny, or make vague statements.
Can't wait to see what they cooked up! But also wishing Joy Woods could play Sarah in Ragtime too.
It's apparently a pretty straightforward production of GYPSY.

I would imagine it would be. Wolfe is a formidable director, but he doesn't do "high" concept or shtick. Not saying that these concepts cant be done well, it's just not his thing.
They just released a bunch more seats for the first preview including last row mezz for almost a two hundred dollars lol
