it's my understanding that this song was replaced in last 5 years by shiksa goddess..
there are videos of norbert performing this in the chicago run on youtube... absolutely adorable!!!

moulin, jrb has only had one production actually ON Broadway and that was Parade.
The others (Songs for a New World, L5Y) were both off-Broadway.
So as far as that goes, he's nowhere NEAR as prolific as Sondheim... but he's popular in the same "cultish" sort of way... AND I'M A CULT MEMBER!!!!

The FIRST show I was obsessed with was POTO (in high school - aeons ago!!!) - seen it twice on tour, once in NY
When I grew up the next obsession was probably Wicked... then Sweeney... then L5Y (tho not TECHNICALLY Broadway)... now it's basically anything that falls out of the pen of JRB.
Or that stars NORBERT!!!!!!!

why did they break up? they couldn't give themselves up.
why did they get together to begin with? they were the polar opposite of what they had experienced before... OPPOSITES ATTRACT>
is that really it in a nutshell? no, because jrb wrote these characters in a more complex fashion than that.
but do i think that's the main jist of it? yeah.

i read that blog and the changes this director wanted to make were related to jamie's monologues in the middle of songs, wanting to cut one altogether and move another.

It's always so interesting to hear how this show affects people..
There was an earlier post that even questioned the need to determine fault. I think both characters are intrinsically flawed, as we all are. The whole show is about choices... Jamie's choice to ask her out, her choice to go with him.... their choice to marry... her choice to try a career, his choice to pursue his dreams... her choice to alienate and his choice to cheat. No relationship comes without strings.. without
