SERIOUSLY??? I'm a middle school teacher. I get paid a fraction of that. Wow...

Can Chorus Members make an NYC living? Jul 19 2008, 10:11:47 PM
Hi All, I've been keeping up with LB:The Search for Elle Woods. Each episode features that adorably pompous judge Paul Canaan, who is in the chorus of LB. Forgive me if this is rude, but do chorus members earn enough to survive in NYC? I know he can't live on Park Avenue, but he has to eat. Do Broadway actors who aren't the stars of shows make a decent living? Just curious...

Didn't catch it on Letterman, but saw it on Oprah. It just looks like an amazing night at the theater. Hope it runs long enough for me to see it.

Spelling Bee, but I have to censor it if my kids are in the car. They love it, too, but really don't need to hear some of the language and they are too young to worry about "unfortunate erections". Also a big fan of Cabaret. Very Dark ...

So how is the show?

What a treat! Only the best teachers take their students to see live theater. Only Pedagogical GODS take them to Broadway!

These that I am seeing are one nighter, bus and truck deals. Do they actually sleep on those buses as they travel overnight from here to the next stop?

Talk to me like I'm Rainman. What is a lotto? When I get back to NYC, I'd like to be at the cool table like you are.

They can practice on me. I'm such a fan of theater, it doesn't have to be very good. Fortunately, TMM and The Full Monty were very good. I still can't get over the harmonies from TFM. Beautiful voices and tight harmonies in a show mostly know for tight... well, you know. :)

re: Newbie has a question Nov 18 2005, 09:31:55 PM
Oh GOOD! I would hate to think that I was contributing to screwing these actors out of the compensation they so greatly deserve. Even from the second balcony of my season passes (all FOUR shows) to the Broadway Series of my local theater, live theater is just the best.

I did Ado Annie locally a while back. So fun... I would be all about being Miss Hanagan in Annie. I would love to be able to sing "There I'll stay tucked away til the prohibition of Little Girls!" night after night. I'm a character actress. What can I say?

Thanks. Am I wrong to see a "non-equity" show? If we wait for only union shows, our stage will be dark for a LONG time.

Movin Out Closes Dec 11 Nov 18 2005, 09:22:12 PM
Movin Out was the very first show I ever saw on Broadway. I was 34 years old. I was on the second row and I cried all the way through the curtain call. I think the cast thought I was psycho. It will always be special to me.

Newbie has a question Nov 18 2005, 09:14:49 PM
Hi. I am a long way from NYC and the shows we get are national tours. We were recently treated to the "Non-equity" Thoroughly Modern Millie and The Full Monty (AMAZING VOCALS - truly unreal). These are listed in the playbills as "Non-equity" shows. What does "non-equity" mean? School me, people. Thanks!
