I think it’s probably because Audra already missed Tuesday and both shows Wednesday. Montego went on already this week, so maybe Audra is trying to make up a performance?
Oh my goodness really? Open your ears. Even just listening back to clips online of both productions, by no way does the Nicole revival sound nearly as full or lush as the Glenn revival. This was even more stark being in the theater, being hit with the wall of sound at the Palace in 2017, which does not exist currently at the st James.
I completely agree, I hate all the commentary complaining about people’s ages, either too old or too young. It’s theater. Jessie Mueller (42) to Donna Murphy (66) can and should play the role of Rose right now.
I thought the sound for Cabaret was amazing. By far better than both times I saw sunset. The last revival of sunset sounded amazing with that huge orchestra so this new production, I didn’t think the sound was anything to write home about.
Oh I totally agree with that. I saw Company on tour at the Forrest Theater in Philly to a mostly empty house. The people around me were not enjoying it. I was then surprised to see Parade go out on the road, nevertheless they keep sending out these ‘not for the masses’ productions on tour. Parade also doesn’t appear to be selling well at all either.
I don’t care if Patti didn’t like this new Gypsy or Audra’s performance. That opinion would be in line with probably most people. But her lying and sneering was totally out of line. Wagging her finger at Audra saying she should know better?? Patti, darling, Broadway is DONE with you. No matter how many times you say you’re done with Broadway, you know deep down inside, it’s the opposite and you’re just trying to save face and loo
It really feels like theater going is becoming cool again. There are theaters being restored all across the land and I think we are going to start to see this on Broadway as well. I want all those theaters on 42nd street to rise once again
Yes people didn’t like Suttons casting in Anything Goes at first. And then she shut all the naysayers up with the most breathtaking musical numbers where she danced her ass off, and then belted those notes out at the end of 8 minute dance numbers. Sutton was absolutely brilliant in the role. Patti treated this with disdain at first just like she did with Audra Gypsy. She doesn’t want to be shown up. But after the Tony Awards, she eventually came around to Sutton but only when
Patti was out all of the time for War Paint and missed a number of performances of Company. Sutton Foster is known to have great attendance and brings bagels on Sundays.
This is very exciting, we could be getting the Ed Sullivan theater, liberty theater, and mark hellinger theater all restored to Broadway houses. How wonderful
