Do we know if Mamma Mia is trying to run as long as possible or is it actually a limited engagement?

The Barrymore, Broadhurst, Jones, Longacre, and Majestic are currently dark for the fall. I would say All Out will take one of these, but they haven't specified if they are opening in the fall or spring. Allegedly Two Strangers has the Jones, but they are hoping for another theater to open up. Cats may have the Broadhurst, but they are opening in spring, so it would be able to host a limited run (unless they need time to reconfigure the space).

The Majestic Jellicle Ball has a nice ring to it.

That set looks absolutely spectacular.

The Haimes is undergoing major renovations starting this summer/fall which is anticipated to take 8 months.

Who in the right mind thinks much ado has a place on broadway. Those leads aren’t big names. Are producers having a hard time raising money for shows? It seems like we would normally have much more announced by this point, especially given how many theaters are available.

Just like Gypsy would be New Orleans set.

How do you block again ?

He should do it at the shed just like he did the effect there for a few weeks. Hiddleston is not gonna set the box office ablaze like Clooney or Denzel. And who gives a $hit about much ado.

Appreciate the analysis. Thoughts where I either disagree or have questions / observations.

1. I think the Golden will be available. It’s grosses have been going down and it must be pretty close to breakeven at this point.

2. I am betting Oh! Mary! Will extend as long as they can find good people to take over. Breakeven must be pretty low, and I would think Cole would love to have a long run play (rarer and rarer these days) to his credit.

3. I hope the Winter Garden is available if all they are showing is something on a road stop.

4. I’ll bet that the Hirschfeld, Broadway, Horne, Lyric, Marquis, Shubert and probably the Sondheim and Kerr will be available and the Belasco will definitely not be. CITS depends on how long JG wants to stay. I went to purchase tickets for friends in November and was amazed at how well it is sold already.

5. I wonder whether Chicago may be getting near to its end. Grosses have been bad for quite awhile and unless they do some very effective stunt casting soon, they may be out of steam. Of course, that theatre is so awful that the Shubert org might be incented to reduce their charges even more, just to keep it occupied.

6. Having seen Versailles and found it distasteful — the lead character is a selfish, shallow jerk, only redeemed by the fact that she is played by KC — I will be very surprised if they can turn it around. If it is as distasteful as it was in Boston, IMO WOM will be awful. The open question is how many tickets will be sold in advance because of Chenoweth and Schwartz. That said, even with bad reviews, and low full price ticket sales after reviews come out, it will probably run long enough to preclude another show opening during the 25/26 season.
