I enjoyed the trailer very much. Will buy tickets. (now have bought tickets to opening night.) I have a certain affinity for shows that close opening night. Some close because they were disasterous performances others become they have no cash and are deep in debt. Mine was the later. Paul Streitz

The rumor is that Fox Theatricals have purchased the Broadway rights to The Devil Wears Prada. Has anyone heard who is writing the script, music, lyrics? Paul Streitz

Musicals with a small male cast Sep 1 2012, 03:58:16 PM
Go to www.darienfilms.com and look at Madison Avenue, the subliminal musical. It can be done with a cast of five. Three males, two females. That is the cabaret version. One comic character plays multiple roles. That can be added to with more chorus, breaking down the roles of the comic character into individual roles. The score is written out in lead sheet form, with the bass part written out as well. There is a cast CD. Samuel French has the rights but you can deal directly

Back a Broadway show on Kickstarter Aug 30 2012, 05:12:47 PM
Thanks so much. There is a lot of kibitzing on this site. I hope you go to the site and make a pledge. For $10 you definitely get a postcard, signed by a most grateful producer, and for $25 you get the cast CD when, and if, the show gets made. We'll keep everyone informed via emails, videos, etc, of our progress. Let's hope the show makes it. And I do really believe what I said in the video on the site. A good story (book) does not make a brilliant musical. It is th

Back a Broadway show on Kickstarter Aug 30 2012, 05:08:16 PM
I never thought of it. But then the message was so different, including the subject that says "back." I think that is the key word. Kickstarter allows people to back all sorts of artistic projects from music CDs, to tech gizmos, to concert tours, games, and here a Broadway show. They are a player in the game. Sometimes, the project doesn't work out such as a tech project not meeting its projections or working well. But that is what being a backer means, taking a risk. It is not simp

Back a Broadway show on Kickstarter Aug 30 2012, 04:56:33 PM
Sure, I learned how to put the graphics on the board and to better display and list the url address. Also, to express that Kickstarter is asking people to back a project, that is take an active financial interest in the project, by supporting it financially. There is not the possibility of financial reward, but there is the satisfaction (if it comes true) of seeing 'your' show, one you have an interest in make it on Broadway, or the disappointment of seeing it fail. Back a Broadway show on Kickstarter Aug 30 2012, 04:44:39 PM
OH, JOHNNY was called "somewhere between South Pacific and Flower Drum Song" in its off-off-Broadway production. I am now kickstarting the show to Broadway by raising $45,000 through Kickstarter. I hope you will take a moment to go to Kickstarter, see what the show is about, and then tell your friends that you just became a backer of a Broadway show. Thanks, Paul Streitz co-author and producer http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2066197434/oh-johnny

A Kickstart to Broadway? Aug 24 2012, 12:31:20 PM
Thanks for your comments, so let me make a few remarks. You say, "A better campaign, in general, would be to fund a production; an actual, concrete, production." I agree wholeheartedly with the suggestion, but the economics don't work out. The cast of OH, JOHNNY is at a minimum of ten. To do a showcase production would cost $45,000 at least, at the end of the showcase, you have nothing. Perhaps a few reviews, but the show is again a script and score on paper. We have the reviews an

A Kickstart to Broadway? Aug 24 2012, 06:25:50 AM
Fine. But where do you get the money? It certainly takes a million or two to launch such an effort. I have shopped this show via letters, CDs, etc. to Broadway producers. No response. They tell me it is not Stomp, or Cats, or Jersey Boys, or whatever is currently a hit on Broadway. . No it isn't. It is South Pacific. It has never been a question of the audience appeal. It has been a question of getting those in a position to put the show up to do so, and that I have not been able to

What would you think would be an appropriate reward for someone who donated $25 to the project, or donated $5,000? Include, and when should it be given? This is not for backers. That is, people who invest in a show with the hope that they will financially receive money. It is no more lie a donation to a regional theatre company or opera company. You approve of what they are doing, donate money and wish them well. Donations to Kickstarter are not a pro quid quo operation. The rewards a

YOU MUST ADMIT THAT THINGS LOOK BLEAK. I HAVEN'T SLIT A THROAT ALL WEEK, I HAVE AN IRON MAIDEN, BUT THERE'S NO ONE TO IMPALE. OH, TO STICK A BAMBOO SPLINTER IN A FINGERNAIL. THAT'S BUSINESS AS USUAL. TORTURING AND SUCH BUSINESS AS USUAL. I LOVE IT MUCH TOO MUCH. BUSINESS AS USUAL. TICKLING THEIR FEET. IT'S BUSINESS AS USUAL, THAT MAKES MY LIFE COMPLETE. Well, it is nice to hear from someone that went to the 1979 Showcase produ

A Kickstart to Broadway? Aug 23 2012, 08:08:31 AM
This is a Kickstarter effort to put together the front money for the production. With the exception of the postcard in appreciation, the rewards are dependent on getting a Broadway show mounted. There is no guarantee that this can be accomplished. If no Broadway show mounted, then obviously there is no cast CD, etc. Those who participate in Kickstarter are not passive on-lookers, or simply ticket buyers, but activists who want to see the type of artistic works they like art/tech/performers/theat

Thanks for the note. To clear up some points about Kickstarter. This is not an investment. There are no return of profits to any person contributing. There are thank you rewards. Kickstarter is a philanthropic platform where contributors can help artists/producers/inventors get funding. The money will be used to hire a general manager, creative staff and lawyers to create the financial investment package to raise funds for a Broadway production. paul streitz co-writer/pr

Sure I'm confident. If you go to Kickstarter and listen to my talk, I say that OH, JOHNNY is right up there with South Pacific, My Fair Lady, etc. We have done this musical for 5,000 people in total so we know how audiences react. Take a look at some of the kickstarter projects. You will see that many had several people who put in very large amounts, so you have to rewqrd thm appropriately. As for the Tony Award. Sure. Why not. If you don't have confidence in your work, you sho

Thanks. The FAQ is a good idea. I am doing other things at the moment, but I will look at adding it later. Remember you can get in on this for only $1. that is the minimum. Now, Ijust have to find 45,000 people.

A Kickstart to Broadway? Aug 22 2012, 07:47:39 PM
Exactly right. Thanks for taking the time to look at the website to find out more. Before a producer can produce any show, that is raise money, there are expenses. This money is to cover those expenses. Especially important is getting a general manager and creative team together to budget the show. Then comes the legal work. The difficulty writers have is that script, lyrics and music in hand, you are asking a producer to put out several thousand dollars in front money, even to

Kickstart new musical "Rio" May 31 2012, 01:23:50 PM
My musical 'RIO' will be premiering this July off-Broadway at the New York Musical Theatre Festival where it was chosen from hundreds of musicals as their 'Official Next Link Selection'. With our New York premiere less than 2 months away, the buzz about our show has attracted some of NY's finest talent including; broadway director Scott Faris who just directed William Shatner's Broadway hit 'Shatner's World, We Just Live In It', choreographer Kate Dunn from 'Billy Elliot', musical director Charity Wicks from 'Spring Awakening' and a broadway filled cast who will include a soon-to-be-named cast-member from the TV show 'Smash'. You can find out more information about the show and how to buy tickets at this link http://www.riothemusical.com/the-show/ As we stand at the heels of Broadway, we need to raise funds to make this the best show we can. Please check out our 'RIO' fundraising video on Kickstarter where we are attempting to raise money to help us finance our production this summer. You'll hear some music and even get a glimpse of my daughter Charlotte's film debut. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/651354404/rio-the-musical?ref=email Because 'RIO' is a story about the homeless street-kids of Rio de Janeiro, we will be donating a percentage of all profits of the show to the ABC Trust - 'The Action for Brazil's Children' - an organization dedicated to helping the street-children of Brazil. So any support we get, we will give back by supporting the relief effort for the thousands of homeless street-kids in Rio by providing them with the education, guidance and inspiration that they need to transform their own lives. Please forward this to anyone who you feel might be interested. Thanks again for your support! I would love to see you all in NY starting July 10-18.
