re: Broadway Songs About Places

ASTORIA GLORIA from Angel. Obscure but catchy: "Astoria Gloria-girl of my dreams-why did you have to live way out in Queens"

Chris (from Astoria)

re: Closed After One Performance?

Wasn't La Strada with Bernadette Peters a 1 performance flop?
re: Worst Broadway Song Ever

I'm going way back here. There was a song that opened ACT 2 of Skyscraper starring Julie Harris called Delicatessan that stunk worse than a moldy Pastrami sandwich. Almost every song from Man In The Moon. For a non-Broadway show song I pick Space is So Startling (there's Jupiter & there's Mars) from a London cast album from the 60's. I haven't listened to that album in over 30 years & I still can't get that horrible title song out of my head.Shipoopi is a masterpiece of melody & poetry compared
Name the worst musical

Runners Up:LEGS DIAMOND
MARILYN
Winner of the worst ever that I saw: MAN IN THE MOON. The lady sitting in front of us flung her playbill towards the stage at the end. It was a dreadful, incomprehensible piece of crap

re: Standard 'makeover' songs in Broadway musicals or movie musicals

How about RAUNCHY from 110 in the Shade?
re: Flops you love

SideShow
King of Hearts
The Robber Bridegroom
Oh, Brother
Sherry
Georgy
Carrie (at least the brilliant parts of the show-not the dumb parts)

re: How old were you when you lost your Broadway virginity?

13 in 1963-saw HIGH SPIRITS with Tammy Grimes, Bea Lillie & Edward Woodward. Prior to that, at age 10, I saw a professional production of CAROUSEL at the Westbury (L.I.) Music Fair when it was still a tent.
re: Best confrontation songs

You're Not Foolin' Me from 110 in the Shade
re: Unexpected Showtunes

I grew up in the 60's & was a big Doors fan. I really liked their song "Moon of Alabama" (Oh, show me the way to the next whiskey bar...)It wasn't until a few years later that I discovered it was a Kurt Weill song from one of his musicals (Either Happy End or The Rise & Fall of the City of Mahoganny)
re: wedding songs...

Sondheim's SO MANY PEOPLE from Saturday Night.
Cy Coleman's LOVERS ON CHRISTMAS EVE from I Love My Wife

re: Funniest Cast Recordings: Make Me Laugh

The Robber Bridegroom
On The Twentieth Century
Oh, Brother

re: Broadway Flops you enjoyed.

Off the top of my head & working backwards:
Woman in White
Sweet Smell of Success
Parade
My Favorite Year
Sideshow
Carrie
Merrilly We Roll Along
Oh, Brother
King of Hearts
Henry,Sweet Henry
Georgy

re: Confusing 'Piazza' lyrics

I always assumed it was about the Nacarelli's.
re: Best title of a musical

I always liked 110 In The Shade. Much better than The Rainmaker, the play it is based on.
First show EVER

HIGH SPIRITS in 1964
re: Bway songs that sound blantantly like other songs!

This may be a bit obscure but I swear "All You Have To Do is Wait" from City of Angels has the exact same melody as "Going Going Gone" from Lolita, My Love
re: Children of Eden

To my knowledge, it was done in London. The closest it ever got to New York was a production at New Jersey's Papermill Playhouse.
