Why Are So Many Broadway Shows Closing: Katherine Steele: YouTube Mar 13 2020, 12:02:25 PM
everythingtaboo said: "That video was interminable. She didn't say anything of worth until about 6 minutes in, and then basically repeating the same point for the rest of the time. I really though the video was more about her manicure than anything else, the way she was putting the nails in focus so much."
Oof. Just...oof. I am so glad I'm not the only one who finds these videos insufferable. Yes, I said videos, because I gave her a chance. Her advice on audi

DHP as Horace Mar 26 2017, 01:55:36 AM
I have thought this was an odd choice from the very beginning, because he's just so gentle in so many of his roles...so, without getting overly spoiler-y, can someone tell me what his "hook" is as Vandergelder? What's the angle? Or is he just playing the heavy and taking down the old familiar road? Thanks!

POSSIBLE SPOILERS - FALSETTOS QUESTIONS...REVIVAL ETC. Dec 18 2016, 01:49:17 AM
Hi.
I know it truly doesn't make a difference in the overall arc at the time of the show, but do most people agree that Marvin ends up with / dying from AIDS as well? OR, Is he perhaps (somehow almost cruelly) left to linger even longer with his loss after the show ends. Such a goth question, I know, but I've been spending a LOT of time around this show lately, and the speculation just eats at you.
Also, isn't there a difference in the feelings towards the quality of Cordelia's food in the two different revivals? I feel like the first time around, it was taken as: she was a successful kosher caterer (who was trying to expand) and the whole inadequacy thing ("you save lives and I save chicken fat / I can't ****ing deal with that!" was more from an egotistical place, where in the newest revival she really is just kind of an underdeveloped character (at least the least developed in the cast, not Betsy's fault) and her food is bad all the way until the end, so her life-path gets to have its own little glimmer before the world of the show collapses.
THIRD and finally, Jason and his traveling song, he "gets on the 104 / with my computer"
DAMN, son...really? In 1981? That thing probably weighed 125 lbs. Strong kid.

AMERICAN PSYCHO Previews Apr 6 2016, 12:29:02 AM
Saw it tonight. I hardly ever post. This was a long evening.
I stayed through the end, because I had to see if it could pull into the station. So much effort, so little steam.
American Psycho is in trouble. It's not a lack of effort that brings this show down. It uses visual effects to its own downfall in the same way that Curious Incident did to make it the winner it was. At a few moments in the show, the visual effects really punch-out the mood or emotion they

Clay Thomson's tweet Dec 29 2015, 10:48:43 PM
all that stuff's on autocue. The op may have been a cue behind...OR...it was frequency cross-talk, in which case it had literally nothing to do with the board operator. Either way, you don't talk smack about your run crew. Typical silly chorus boy bitching. Kids with piles of money who won't be remembered in a year. Meh.

Eating/Drinking Percentage in Theater Dec 29 2015, 10:38:15 PM
As with the argument regarding cell phone usage: theatrical experiences are a privilege, not a right. Barring medical conditions and other understandable restrictions, none of this has a place in the show. If you are such a desperate, sad person that you can't hold out to use your phone, chomp down on your corn chips, slug back your double-bubble-burp-a-cola...you don't need to come to the theatre. Be a person for a couple hours...time your day properly, budget your

Herbal Cigarettes on Stage Dec 29 2015, 10:30:41 PM
You could fill an e-cig with a nicotine-free liquid and basically be smoking steam. It would look fine, and contain no carcinogens or other secondary toxins.

Kelsey grammar in finding neverland Dec 19 2015, 10:51:32 PM
I think Kelsey has an excellent grasp of the English language. I feel he speaks with a fluidity and expertise that are far above the average. I see nothing wrong with his grammar.

Breaking: Live Audience to Participate in FOX's GREASE: LIVE!, Album & More Details Revealed! Dec 17 2015, 12:13:39 PM
Not sure about that. The Wiz, for all intents and purposes, was blocked and shot as a full-proscenium theatrical production. A couple pans of an applauding audience, plus applause breaks where a goddamn applause break should be would have helped the overall feel of the show, IMHO. Grease will gain even more from a live whooping-and-hollering crowd. Glad they're going this route.

AMAZING GRACE sets closing Sep 16 2015, 10:45:26 PM
I think taking this production out of NY and directly to target markets (the Bible Belt, deep south) will make it (yeah I'm gonna say it) one of the highest grossing tours of its season. Also, I share the astonishment that it lasted this long. Its creator pumped all sorts of plasma into it, and took a HUGE hit. 25 percent sales do not a financial success make.

I feel like Kinky Boots is just The Full Monty, but with shoes...and fewer interesting characters.

BROADWAY THINGS: Wherein we state our opinions Aug 31 2015, 12:50:51 PM
I think that Spring Awakening is one of the worst musicals ever written, Duncan Shiek had no idea what to do music-wise, and the songs are forced...as though they're just drawn from a hat, IMHO.

School of Rock, pre-Broadway showcases Aug 30 2015, 11:22:41 PM
This looks like a disaster waiting to happen. A movie on the lower third of Jack Black's spectrum, and the kids have looked utterly lifeless in every shot I've seen. Nothing is more disastrous on stage than people pretending to have fun. See "Big" for details. I hope for better, but at present expect very little from this show.
