(Almost) every major musical that has opened on Broadway has had screen rights sold, that doesn't necessarily mean the film will get made.
Some musicals are backed by major motion picture studios with the screen rights as part of the package.
Universal backed the original Broadway production of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and they produced the screen version in 1982. Everyone knows they backed "Wicked" and currently hold the screen rights.

That video of Miss Leslie Uggams trying with all her might to sing that song with the correct lyrics is hilarious. After all else failed she just went with it and filled it in with whatever she felt was appropriate. I think I heard "Heebie Jeebies" in there somewhere.

I think the tempo is a bit excessive for my taste. I'm sure the casual theater goers in the audience had absolutely no idea what she was singing at that point. I can only imagine, that the energy in that theater was on high and you can clearly hear the audience feeding off that energy and "eating it up".

This recording has been on instant replay since I purchased it. I can't stop listening to it. I'm pleased that Karen Olivo got the opportunity to preserve a part of her performance through this recording.
