MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG

Oct 15, 2023 — 2:33:48 AM

Does anyone know if the box office is selling standing room for this MERRILY?

Leslie Jordan has passed away at 67

Oct 24, 2022 — 3:53:53 PM

I was privileged to enjoy a brief but lovely chat with him on the ground floor level of the Marriott Marquis several years ago. What an engaging, funny and sweet man. May he rest in peace.

One Shubert Alley gift shop to close October 2

Sep 20, 2022 — 10:23:43 AM

I will be sorry to see it close. Since my teens I have loved looking through the merchandise and taking advantage of whatever sales were offered. Great for postcards, frames, T-shirts, window cards, etc. The end of an era.

Souvenir Program?

Sep 20, 2022 — 10:16:27 AM

I have inquired about this periodically at the merchandise counter. The last time I asked I was told categorically that there is no souvenir program forthcoming. I was sorry to hear that.

Music Man Sets Closing Date

Sep 13, 2022 — 9:51:50 PM

Aren't BEETLEJUICE's grosses lessening? All of a sudden I'm seeing TV ads for the show, which to me indicate some worry on the part of the producers as to the show's longevity.

Music Man Cast Recording

Jul 21, 2022 — 11:19:30 AM

As a "seasoned theatergoer" of numerous decades myself, I would never presume to speak for that or any other group, as we are all individuals with varying viewpoints. Everyone is entitled to his/her/their own opinion. I do find it odd, though, and contrary to fact that some people find no character arc in Harold Hill in the current revival. Perhaps they are not paying close enough attention? More examples abound, but these stand out: Early in the show, as Harold distracts the town council mem...

Which Music Man album?

Jul 19, 2022 — 8:18:56 PM

I had read that they plan to record the revival cast album on July 25-26, postponed from June 19 owing to Hugh Jackman's and other cast cases of Covid. Hope this is true.

Sutton Foster out of The Music Man this week?

Jun 26, 2022 — 5:36:01 PM

Does anyone know whether Remy Auberjonois, whom Sutton kisses eight times a week on stage, has ever tested positive for Covid? I would not be surprised if he too tests positive in the coming days, although I hope not. He is delightfully curmudgeonly and irascible as Charlie Cowell.

Pronuncation of Chip Zien's Surname

Apr 9, 2022 — 9:55:07 AM

I've wondered for years whether I was pronouncing Chip Zien's name correctly, most recently when I saw his excellent performance in HARMONY. Is it Zee-en? Zy-en? Zeen? Zine? Thanks!

MR. SATURDAY NIGHT Previews

Apr 6, 2022 — 9:08:57 AM

I saw the show March 31. I think I was informed shortly after the lottery closed for that date. The tickets appeared on my phone at approximately 6:10 p.m. for the 7 p.m. curtain. Location was Center Orchestra 111 and 112. Perfect!

MR. SATURDAY NIGHT Previews

Apr 1, 2022 — 1:07:42 AM

I was at the show earlier this evening, too. The first act was hilarious, owing of course to the great Billy Crystal. I don't care how old he is, as one of the show's songs puts it, he's "still got it." But as pointed out before, probably not hilarious to everyone. Me, I'm a sucker for old timey Borscht Belt humor. It reminds me of my parents and grandparents and how we would sit and listen to Mickey Katz recordings together when I was a child. (For your kiddies, Katz was Joel Grey's dad.) I ...

Lincoln Center 2022-2023 Season?

Mar 22, 2022 — 3:56:51 PM

I'm contemplating whether or not to renew my LCT membership. I'm not particularly thrilled with the offerings this season. Has anyone heard anything, even rumors, about possible productions for next season?

Mr. Saturday Night

Feb 25, 2022 — 9:07:03 AM

After sitting in a very leg-room deficient seat in the mezzanine (and I'm only 5'6&quot, I actually had to have physical therapy for my knees. The pain was excruciating. As to the show, it was HONEYMOON IN VEGAS, which was only mildly painful. I much prefer standing room there, which I did for RENT.

Music Man Matinees

Feb 20, 2022 — 9:52:00 AM

Those who want to see danger, edge or a sleaze factor in Harold Hill have totally misread the plot line. His whole con depends on his being ingratiating, accommodating, glad-handing, flattering, ebullient, enthusiastic, etc. If any element of the deception behind the con were blatantly evident, the show would end right after "Ya Got Trouble." Until the very end, when he realizes his feelings for Marian, only the scenes with crony Marcellus reveal who he really is.

Music Man Rush Line.

Feb 18, 2022 — 2:58:09 PM

To anyone on the rush line: Could you please inquire as to whether one can purchase two single seats (not next to each other) as opposed to two together? I'm curious. Thanks.

THE MUSIC MAN Previews

Feb 6, 2022 — 1:56:03 AM

I feel sorry for those who were not blown away by this production of MUSIC MAN. In a perfect world every theater experience would do that for the audience. I've already seen it a few times (though ouch! on the prices) and plan to go again. For me, it was 2-1/2. hours of nonstop pleasure. I thought both Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster were brilliant, bringing hitherto unmined humor and vivacity into two of the most iconic roles in musical theater. Unlike some, I didn't think Shuler Hensley was ...

THE MUSIC MAN Previews

Jan 30, 2022 — 2:14:22 AM

If I understand you correctly,I don't agree with your assessment of Hugh Jackman's take on Harold Hill. Have you even seen the show? He's not "inventing" Harold "as he goes along." His Harold is well thought out. He pours on the phony charm expertly, all the better to quickly grab the cash from the townspeople before making as quick an exit as possible. Nonetheless, he's having a great time doing so, which I see as totally in character, not a fault of performance. That the audience eats it up...
